Just bought a used chain cabinet, and it really needs polishing. However, when I start to polish the rag turns black right away and when I wipe it off with another rag the area stays black. Really a lot of oxidation. What can I use to get the oxidation off and then polish it out. Rather not use acid if I can help it. Thanks for the help.

Sand it
CCA331 sand paper, sand it well, then buff it with a 5000+ rpm buffer and stone either green or preferably brown.
Enjoy the luster.exhausted379 Thanks this. -

Caterpillar Cowboy Thanks this. -
The rag turning black is normal -
Get ya some rouge and buffcutting wheels. Probably gonna need to be gone over in 3 or 4 stages if it's as bad as most used stuff. Then finish it by hand with the green Zephyr 40.
