In my opinion this is the only way to go. A new truck with a older more reliable/fuel efficient engine

you can find them for sale in the "truck paper" that are free at pilot, etc.

i saw one, a brand spankin new freightahaker coranado with a reman detroit and a reman 13 speed tranny for about $90,000

it was so fancy i was drooling over the pictures......they also have pete 379's.....you could probably get any type of truck you wanted.....

for the way they are spec 'd out, if you bought it totally new, you see the "listed" as retailing for about $130,000........too rich for my blood....

they all make them...or at one time did....

the premise behind them is a new truck with your used running gear....i.e...if you have a totaled 'shaker with good powertrain and axle's...they will set the guages and everything to work with the motor, tranny and rears...

i think itd be a good deal except for the fact it's spendy to have someone transfer all your power train over...and when you put 'shaker parts on a pete...they will ( trust me ive seen it) look at you wierd when ordering parts

The truck in my avatar has a glider kit, because of a rollover accident before we acquired it. Only problem I found was getting parts for it, as Kenworths standard reply was 'Thats an invalid number'. Hence me sourcing parts from Freightliner, and never having another problem... Other than body parts etc of course.
In Edmonton, Freightliner is open 24 hours and friendly, and Kenworth is only open till 1am. Another reason for using Freightliner...

the kits i'm talking about are all completey done...or you can even tell them the brand of motor you want, it's all included in the price.....i check out a company called fitzgerald in tenneessee that builds and sells them....

only draw back i can really see is that you don't have a "new" motor warranty.......it's only 1 year or 100,000 miles, same for tranny........but i dont know any other specifics like the cab, air cond, etc, etc........

the motor and tranny are arguably the most important components in a truck purchase.....therefore, i would be very cautious, or want more warranty....
