Bird Whistling Sound?

I know these are the hardest to identify, but SOMETIMES when I let off the throttle, the turbo makes a strange whistle that sounds like a bird exhaling. It doesn't do it all the time, just occasionally. Mainly when I have been sitting at idle for a while and then it goes away. Sometimes it comes back, but only briefly. I know that a BOV can sometimes make a sound in a passenger car application, just not sure if it is the same in a big truck. Any thoughts?

Turbo spooling would be a guess.

Yes, but it does it when I let off, not as I am accelerating.

Do a google search on turbo whistling. You will get alot of info on cars and light trucks.

It seems that it could be a waste gate adjustment issue or not a problem.

On my Ford F350, you could really hear the turbo spooling when loaded and extremely louder when the 4 inch exhaust was added. I looked alot for the whistle and could never find a problem. Turbo had over 500,000 miles on it. The deer always looked at the truck though. Expensive deer whistle.

its your blow off valve on your turbo. Lets off excess psi making a woooosh sound kinda. Some blow off valves make a high pitch whistle. It all depends on the truck manufacture on what type of turbo setup they choose.

Ex: med/hard acceleration then let off and you will hear that whistle or what wooosh sound. I love hearing that noise on turbo'd big blocks
