| 550, The reason i asked if anyone had done the exhaust housings is that its like bolting a larger AR on. Done correctly it doesnt take away any of the tollerance from the housing face to the exducer wheel. It would mimick bolting a one size up ( .84 to .94 ar for example using car turbo speak ). To my mind, this would help aleviate some of the cork the stock turbos are. |

| I know what you mean Agent, but there is hardly any upgrades for trucks that you speak of in a T6 flange. Not only that each turbine wheel is different.... For instance i have a old 3406E exhaust housing and when i first bought the truck i wanted to to put it on my C15 turbo, it being smaller. It wont work, the wheels are different, not much but they are. The housing being bigger it would be so mis matched that the turbo would become a lag monster, the housing has to be a perfect match for the wheel for the exhaust to hit the wheel right. I had extrude honed housing on cars too, but it dont think its worth the money on a truck. I never saw power gains with extrude honing housings, just faster spool up on cars. In the car world its much simpler, say you have a T4 turbine with a P trim wheel you can put a .58, .68, .96, 1.15, 1.32AR and so on.

| Some of you may remember me from earlier posts, '04 W900, single turbo bridge engine with the MBN (More Bad News) ecm; 475 at 2100. I was hoping to get some parts, ecm, turbo, exhaust manifold, etc. off a friends '98 550 that has a broken crank. At last talk, he didn't sound like he wanted to part with the goodies, and ecms won't swap anyway, (40 pin vs. 75? pin) I'm now trying to contact the owner of a wrecked '03 W900 with a C15 475, to see if he'll sell parts off it. I know the '03 ecm will be an improvement, also wondering if I should try to get the turbo, and exhaust manifold. Local KW dealer had stated that I had the smallest turbo available on a 475. Questions are: (1) Can I tell by the #s on the turbo housing if the '03 turbo is the same, or bigger than mine, any #s to look for, or stay away from? (2) Should I try for the '03 exhaust manifold also, or just try to find one off a 425 B model. (3) on the older B models is there a certain casting # that you can look at to verify it is a 425 model? Thanks in advance |

| Just make sure that 03 is not a MBN, mine is a 03 and its a MBN motor. The manifold is the same on the MBN and 6NZ, and even a 7CZ C16 for that matter. Dont worry about the turbo, it will handle 550hp no problem. I wouldnt bother swapping turbos, injectors, etc. Just go straight for the ECM, turbo on a C15 6NZ is the same as a MBN. If you want a bigger one go for the C16 turbo or a 550hp 1LW 3406E turbo.... If i were in your shoes i would get in touch with michigan turbo and pick up their stage 3, dump the wastegated turbo, thats a lot of restriction as well, stage 3 has no wastegate. Im not sure on any castings on the manifold, i will have to look at it and let ya know. But the manifold is very bulky comparing to a C15, also the ports are square and not round like the C15, they are also almost double the size lol.

| I guess for what it worth, it'd be a better deal to slip a stg 3 michigan on it.. You know if i end up being O/O again, i'll be knocking on your door.. |

| I have a MBN rated # 500hp that I have recently changed the ECM to a 6nz 550 hp ECM looking to get better mpg's. Not happy yet. Can anybody tell me if changing the injectors to 6NZ injectors would make any difference, and if so what results could I expect Last edited by sleepless nights; 07.26.2008 at 11.05 PM. |

Did you notice any change in performance? My present MBN engine is 475 at 2100. In my other trucks I used to shift up at 1400-1450, but with this one, my power band is quite narrow, 1300 to 1500; outside of that, it's gutless. Even within that power band, it feels more like a 425 hp. What I'm hoping to gain, is a little more power, (wishing for 100 hp) and hopefully up my MPG to around 6, (presently a best of 5.3 pulling a tanker, never grossed over 80k). |

| Yes there was a improvement in power for example on a hill that I could pull at 60 kms about 37 mph with the new 6NZ ecm I could pull it at 43.5 mph The new Ecm I put on was one from Pittsburg power and I don't know what setting they have put in it other than it is a 6NZ 550 Hp. The power went up but I have not seen much improvement in fuel economy. It also still runs hot about 1100F-1150F and higher if I would let it go higher. if I pinch the waste gate off it cools it down conciderably to about 1000F-1050F max. It seems to have a lot larger window where it boost strong from 1550-1900 about 34 psi with the gate working and 38-40psi with it pinched off. It still pulls good down at 1400 but my boost starts to drop off below 1550rpm. I haul logs 50-60% off highway grossing out at 130,000lbs on 7 axles. hope this was some help. |
