Sleeper questions

I am new to trucking so please forgive me when I ask the following about various company sleepers:

How come a Freightliner Century, Coronado, Century class 70 sleeper seems small than the others companies that provide 70? In addition, some are removable like the Peterbilt and KW but are tougher, roomier and better?

Finally, my last question is did Volvo build a 70' sleeper or has it been a 77 and 61 sleeper from the beginning?

A 70" sleeper is 70" regardless of the brand name. The way that the interior is laid out and how usable the space is makes all the difference in the world. Some companies do a much better job of managing the space than others do. A lot of it has to do with individual preferences, and there are folks that prefer each specific brand.

Some of the companies tend to have more use of removable sleepers instead of making them intgral with the truck. If a truck has a removable sleeper, it may slightly increase the used truck resale value since it can be converted to a day cab with minimal effort, and there is a fairly high demand for used day cabs in the secondary market.

As for the Volvo, they have made sleepers in various sizes, from as small as 36" up to their largest models. The 61" and 70" just happen to be their most popular models.

it depends on HOW they measure it. Look at a KW. SInce they went to the wide open cab to sleeper area they measure from the back wall to the very front where it meets up with the cab between the seats. Problem with this is that with it being rounded that spot is actually a good 6 inches in front of the seat backs. KW has always irked me with that one

Yep, the newer KW 72 inch Integral has the exact same front to back room as the older style 60 inch aerodyne. I've owned both, and they are same same.

Well with the older sleepers that were seperate of the cab it measured from the back wall to the front wall like on the petes. Problem is once they start making the truck one piece and open that wall up compleatly it kind f blurs the line between what is the cab and what is the sleeper. I can only speak of the petes and KW's. They are all that's worth owning anyways!

Volvo sleeper is measured from the back of the seat to the back wall of the sleeper. 610 is 61" 780 is 78"
