| popping sound Judging from the pic I'm assuming you have a fld 120,if its the case you may want to shim your shacke bushings they make 2 sizes of shims I'd use 1 thick, and finish with the thinner ones i did mine and shimmed it tight ,but like an earlier post make sure king pins and spring bushings check out ok. |

| My Pete does it and according to the wrenches that the 387 spring hangers are notorious for it. They said I could spend the money to replace them but no garuntee. My rig only has 119k on it and the prior owner bought a set of hangers and they are in the bunk, I would just need to install them. I don't have the equipment to lift the front etc so I would have to take it to a shop...... what are you opinions???

| When I first started driving, in 94, the first 2 trucks I drove were a 93 and a 96 fld. Both were owned by my grandpa and bought new. They both also popped in the front end while in a turn on an angle. The 96 ended up being traded in at 900,000 and still popped. He basically put a new front end under it at 700,000 and it still done it. Never did figure out why. |

| Na, it's not the 5th wheel unless the the trailer is cocked at an angle maybe. It's not just the Freightliners doing it it's also Kenworths. I haven't heard a Pete do it yet. It's also not coming from under the front end. These sound's alway's came from the rear of the tractor. I noticed while in the shop on the Wiley Sanders yard in Troy, AL. we pulled in and had to do some work that required the parking brake to be supplied. One guy stood in between the drives with his shin's up againest the rear axle and his back side againest the front drive axle and he pushed on it and I was amazed at the large amount of movement because of wore out bushings. Over 4 inchs of travel when he pushed them apart. I looked at him and said "And I've been riding around in this damn thing!" Never will I let my truck get like that. I told my step dad after they replaced the bushings that he needed to go over to the alignment shop and have the whole thing aligned other wise I wasn't about to get back in it and leave the yard. "we don't have the time..." Well, you had better make time because I don't feel comfortable rolling down the road after what I just saw. I got him talked into it so I felt much better when we rolled out. I still can't figure out what the popping is though. I guess it is the 5th wheel but I didn't think it was because it's done it even right after I applied a fresh coat of grease.

| I havn't read any of the replys, but its more than likley spring hangers. basically the spring is slapping the insidesof the hangers. Best way to prevent this from happening is to keep it greased. A Quick way to put a band-aid on the noise is to tighten them up. loosen one side of the tanger (Pete 387's take a 3/4" wrench) and squeeze them back together with a BIG C-clamd (8"s or so) then tighten it back up and grease them again!!! |

| Just a thought , It could be the hinge bushings on the front fo the cab. I am asumming that it has an air ride cab. Is the poping that you are hearing is under your feet? |
