| 10 speed converted to a fuller 13 speed After reading all of your responses about what truck to buy, I'm about to purchase an 05 pete 387 with 286k miles in the odo, 475hp cummins, and here it goes a 10 speed converted to a 13 speed and 3.70 ratio. My question is what is the difference between a 13 speed and a 9 or 10 speed converted to a 13 speed??? will it be as reliable??? what about gas mileage? should I continue with the deal? | To have converted it would have to have 13 speed rear section and related parts installed. As long as it runs quiet and was done properly, it shouldn't be a problem. |

| You can add the rear section to a 9 speed to make it a 13 or you can take a 13 direct and flip the last gears and make it a double overdrive but it leave a BIG jump between 12th and 13th. it probably had a 13 speed swaped in place of th 10 seed. Ratios would vary depending on which model 13 it is. there is a bunch |

| Thank you guys for all of your great responses. What I know is that the tranny was converted to a 13 speed and it doesn't have a checkmark for overdrive. It has 3.70s in the rear end differential. | That conversion was done to my truck. It came with the road ranger 9 speed and the previous owner switched to the 13. I have had absolutely no problems at all with it and I really appreciate being able to split those upper gears on the hills. If I ever buy a truck with the 9 in it, I would definatly have the conversion done. |
