Misc. Installer watch!!!

Hey all, just posting a fubar that happened to me today .... I had recently bought a Pete and had an APU installed as part of the deal. During the install (wich was very neatand clean) they removed my quarter fender and it looks like they had to remove the cross member to get the brackets installed. Well I saw the exterior and looked no further. How did I find out that they pulled the fender and cross member??? I was backing up a slight incline today and my fender got into the rear tire and that was all she wrote for my fender. When I loosened the clamp and pulled it off The stansion pipe was loose so my brother climbed underneath to tighten it and we foud 3 missing bolts out of the cross member and the others where loose. Now I have to get the installers to send me a new set of fenders and get the missing bolts re-installed.

Mora of my dilema, if you get something installed go over it thoroughly. If it is close to it, check it as I would have never guessed that they wouldhave pulled the member.... I am not too happy but a least all that was lost was a fender and nothing more.......

Also when you buy something used from a dealer, do not have them do a DOT inspection as part of the deal. They do not do as well of a job due to the fact that when they find something you would naturally have them fix it as part of the deal. Again a lesson learned the hard way.... no ,jor issues but the cab air bags looked rough to have one blow ot on my maden voyage under load.... not too happy but it could have been much worse.

I think all dealer are required to put a DOT sticker on the truck but only if it has exspired. But your right about them not checking much just putting the sticker on.

You shoudn't have to babysit the techs in the shop, but the way things are going these days, it is a must with the quality of hands some of the dealers are hiring. I must admitt, I've made a few mistakes, but nothing like that.

As far as the DOT, our used truck Dept. will send the truck out to be inspected because the guys in our shop really look the truck over and the UTD was not making as much money because they were having to fix a lot of stuff....its even worse for a Texas State Inspection!!
