Wal-Mart buys 300 Freightliner Cascadias with DD15 engines

Wal-Mart buys 300 Freightliner Cascadias with DD15 engines
Quote:
Daimler Trucks North America announced Wednesday, June 18, that Wal-Mart Stores has purchased 300 Freightliner Cascadia trucks equipped with Detroit Diesel DD15 engines. Delivery of the Cascadia 60-inch XT sleepers to Wal-Mart is slated to begin in September.

DTNA says the Cascadia and the DD15 met Wal-Mart's specific criteria for reliability, fuel economy, durability and serviceability. Two Cascadias equipped with DD15 engines were tested within Wal-Mart's fleet prior to the purchase.

I've been driving a Cascadia/DD15 for the last 2 weeks. I was surprised to see it only got 6.9 MPG.

Good friend's younger brother drives for W/M, said when they took delivery of those Petes, Cat rep. went met with them, stated that if they progressive shifted, carrying the loads they were, trucks should see 8 MPG ; C-13, I think rated at 430 hp, (don't know the rest of drivetrain specs).

Maybe 8 MPG was a wishful dream that didn't come true, hince the DDs?

If you haven't had the pleasure of driving "anything" with a DD15, you don't know what your missing.

I would pull freight with a VW bus if it had a DD15 in it. And I HATE Detroits. Or used to.

The DD15 is one awesome engine. Check the specs on it. You can damn near idle this engine up a hill.

One of the first things I did when I was offered a new truck, was to call our shop, and see if we had any with the DD15 or twin turbo CAT. Sadly we don't.

How many miles does it have on it now? And what is your top running speed and RPM at that speed?

Are you running mountains or mixed terrains?
