But was it an OTR company?

I'm truck shopping right now and a truck w/APU is a major consideration. Found an 05 W900 with APU that has an 8000 hr guarantee included and there seems to be no real premium for used trucks w/APU's - yet. I think they will be mandatory within 2 - 3 years on all new trucks with sleepers, older trucks with sleepers will be grandfathered in or given more time to get one. I think we'll see lots of trucks with sleepers removed if they're not being used...anyway, it's my Crystal Ball Prediction of The Future

I run a Willis, it works great most of the time. We've had a couple of minor issues with them.
I think the truck manufacturers should put electric heat and A/C in trucks with diesel generators, so when we have access to shore power we could plug it, when we don't have access to shore power we run the APU.
It would be alot cheaper than systems like Idle Aire, most of us have telephones, internet access, television, & most of the crap Idle Aire tries to sell us. With electric heat and A/C all we would need would be a twenty or thirty amp electric outlet. We could run our heat or A/C for about fifty cents an hour.
Now we have several companies making APU systems that require running the APU to run the A/C compressor, only one or two have the option of useing shore power.

The major issue with APU's is the wonderful state of CA....again. Sticking their #### nose into everything.

At my last look. They had only approved one brand of APU for "legal" use within their borders. What brand that was..I don't know, and I don't care.

Any freight CA has for me, can be relayed in AZ. I'm getting sick of the communist $#$###$.

Why pop $4-6K for something that will still get you a ticket?

The company I work for has put APU's on all of the trucks they have bought in the last three years. It's nice to be able to run the ac when I am sitting in a dock or in a state that doesn't allow idleing. So far I haven't had any issues with mine not wanting to work. The only thing I don't like about it is it only cools off the back of the truck. If I want to sit in the front of the truck it gets a little warm. Another good thing is I don't have to use an inverter anymore. I have two a/c plugs in the back that I use for my microwave and my tv.

bbkeo,

Who do you work for? I know TransAm has APU's, New Century, SNI lease trucks, and some SRF lease trucks.

NFI they started putting the APUs on all of their new trucks starting with their 07's. They figured it was cheaper in the long run. That and we mainly run in the northeast so idleing isn't an issue.
