Detroit in a Kenworth

I posted back awhile ago about buying a 2001 Kenworth T600, the Detroit engine seems to be running too hot for my liking, when working if i was to shut the fan off manual it will go well over 200, when the fan is running on manual its still running at 190, i am figuring its the thermostat, i am going tomorrow to get it checked and have it put on the laptop to see whats happening and what the torque and power settings are at, possibly a gauge but i feel its the thermostat as this truck has sat for about a year and a half before we bought it, guy that owned it claimed he ran it every week but i think the sitting has given many problems more then the thermostats, also having lots of little annoying electrical problems too. Our mechanic figures we might possibly have to change the fuse box behind the clutch in the cab, he says its mighty expensive to do, said something about $5000.00, after i got up off the ground i was ready to do this Kenworth in. Is this a possibility that it would have to be done and is this right for the amount mentioned to do this job with parts and labor? I sure hope he's wrong. Can anyone give me any ideas, thanks.

Well got back from the Detroit dealer and thermostat is ok, rads are fine and condensor is perfect also, it turned out to be the gauge was out about 20 degrees, hooked up the laptop to the ECM and couldn't get it to connect, the fuse was corroded and was no good, this is whats scaring me, the thought of having to replace the fuse panel in behind the clutch. Any ideas as to the amount of labor and cost of parts to replace this, guy this morning said it might be down a week to do the job, ouch.

I don't have a price to give you but electrical repairs are NEVER cheap and the dealers love them because it's like a blank check for them to bill whatever they want.

there is a post on here somewhere where the guy got a quote of $4500 to replace the main wiring loom in the truck and a week to do the work. can;t remember if it was 2 or 3 weeks it went but the bill was $8k

The company where I used to work uses mostly KWs, (about 98%). I'm pretty tight with the two mechanics at the nearby terminal, and often visit them whenever I have an issue. Awhile back, I asked about going into the backside of my fusebox, (W900), and moving a wire from the "hot when key is on" side, to the "hot all the time" side of the fuse box. Before I could finish explaining what I wanted to do, both began shaking their heads no, and said that was a hornets nest I didn't want to mess with.
One of them went on to tell me about sending a T800 to the local KW dealer to have a faulty fusebox replaced when they were really busy . When they received the bill, they decided to replace the next one "in house".
After replacing one on another T800, they decided that the KW price wasn't that bad after all. BIG PITA!!!
