Anti Rust

Has anyone ever heard of spraying diesel fuel on the chassis to prevent from rusting? I have a friend who used to work on Bulldozers he said in the winter time they used to spray them down and just leave them sitting, by spring there wasn't any rust on them and they were good to go! Is there any truth to this?

Lots of farmers in my area sprayed a mix of diesel and used engine oil on their plows, harrows, other farm equip., etc. to prevent rust while they weren't being used; this of course before $4.00+ diesel, and big brother keeping a watchful eye for polluters.
Whenever I think about it, and have time, I do paint my small disc plow with used engine oil; it is a good temporary rust preventive, (helps with weed control in that spot also)
