Any new engine with a DPF is horrible, do some research before you buy, if you think your current truck is bad then just wait after you buy a new 08 motor, im sure the dealer and you will be on a first name basis!

Like they said. You want something that’s going to be reliable and efficient ...go with the C15 or Detroit 60 series.

If you have to have new then get what you want. I would think it would be wise to wait till it is proven out more before you put your money on the line for it.

With any new motor design its going to take a while before they meet the standards of the older stuff that has been tried and proven. It always works this way.

What do you guys think about a new C15?

How would the fuel efficiency and reliability be compared to my current 60-series?

You really dont listen do you? ANY NEW ENGINE WITH A DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER AKA: DPF IS A NIGHTMARE even the C15. Stick with a 07 or older engine for reliability, if you really want a no emissions, reliable, great fuel millage engine buy a 03 or older. If you are set on a new truck buy a glider kit from Fitzgerald with a reman series 60 12.7 engine in any freightliner you like and have a new truck with a new older style engine that is reliable and will get great millage. Do you get that now?

Dude
Listen to what everybody is telling you. Better yet listen to what your accountant should be telling you. Now is not the time to be buying a new engine. Why would you be asking advice from strangers on a matter of life or death to your trucking business. If you don't know what you are doing, then get on the internet and do your research! Or if you don't know how to do that then I seriously think you have been quite lucky to be in the financial position to even be thinking of buying a new truck / engine.

I don't really pay much attention to the technical specifications of engines, I just drive. lol

And I am in Canada, so those glider kits don't really apply to me.

Sorry in advance if I didn't fully understand something.

Right now I get around 7 mpg with my Columbia, but I tend to not go over 60mph.

I have a detroit 2004 60-series 14.0 engine. Does it have a DPF? How is its fuel economy compared to newer engines such as the DD15 or C15?

No you dont have a DPF, thats on the new engines, 7mpg is very good, you wont see that with a 08 motor, especially a new C15, i doubt you would with a DD15 as well.

You can buy a glider kit from these guys, there are plenty of them running around canada.

I think that he thinks that a glider kit is something that you buy, build, take to the top of the nearest mountain and FLY BTW - how far will I fly and what kind of fuel mileage can I get with my DD15 glider kit if I take off from the top of Mt Everest, please quote me in liters or royal Canadian gallons, eh???

JUST KIDDING!

You’re going to miss that Detroit if you get rid of it. You’re also going to miss getting 7 mpg. Some of our happiest customers have your 60 series and by the time we have to do the rebuild they have a million three on them.
