| Singe rear axle trucks Hi Guys I am looking into Freightliner, Pete, International or a KW with a sleeper and a single rear axle. What kind of MPG are you getting with your trucks with a S/A? What engine, gear ratio, transmission do you have? What type of trailer are you pulling? what areas are you traveling through? thanks, Andrew  |

| A lot is going to vary here. What do you intend to haul? What weights? What size engine? What kind of engine? What kind of cab? What kind of trailer? I started out in a single axle cab over with a 290 cummins 9 speed We never grossed more than 52k. I always averaged 7 mpg or better, and never shut the truck off unless I was home. Idling 60-70 hours a week was "normal" when I started. If I hadn't idled so much, I'd guess it would have averaged at least 9 mpg.

| I am going to be pulling a PJ step deck weighing around 10500 lbs. The cargo is light hotshot loads its going to be around 15-20k lbs. The cargo is varying from pipes, cars, construction equipment, industrial and agriculture equipment etc... For the engine I was thinking something in the 400hp range should be plenty I want to get the best MPG possible but be able to maintain speed up a grade. I am not sure what engine yet which ever engine is going to be the most reliable, not to expensive on parts and gets good MPG will be the one. Which engine would you suggest? I am looking at a conventional cab with a midroof. What truck cab configuration do you guys suggest? thanks, Andrew |

| I don't know about the parts, probably a little higher than others but I checked out Pete's website and the new 384 model looks nice can be had with a "low roof" sleeper or a "high roof" sleeper with a double bunk option. The low roof can be had from 36" 48" to 63" and the High roof 48" 63" and 70". Can be had with Cat's 320hp to 485hp or ISM's 280 to 410hp which should be PLENTY of power for your hill climbs. You can also get it with a 10-18 speed eaton or an autoshift 10-13spd. I looked and looked but couldn't find whether you can get it in single axle or not, the specs on pete's site don't say anything but I'm sure you can order it. Hope that helps. | thanks for the info but I dont want a new truck due to all the restrictive emissions parts on there. My ideal year range is 95-2004 |

| You might try googling expediter forums . They can give you info and have classifieds listing used expediter trucks . I know a few hotshotters that got good buys on used expediter trucks and shortened the frame and made it a tractor . |
