| Yes there are plenty of them with N14s. My opinion? Stay away....... Yes there are good and bad ones, but with cummins about 80% are bad and 20% are somewhat ok.

| Experience #1 Company I used to work for ran a lot of N14s, in KWs, T800, and T600; In 1996, I was issued a new T800 with a 350hp N14; ran like a scalded dog, til Cummins found that the injectors were overfueling. They estimated around 500 hp to the wheels. R&R injectors, and it became the sickest truck in the fleet, always sounded like it was missing, but "Dr. Cummins" could find no problems. While I was on vacation, they once again ran the overhead, and when another driver was returning to terminal with the truck, a cam follower broke, taking out the cam, block, and other less important stuff. Just turned 60K miles, Cummins would not replace the complete engine, but basically laid the crank on the shop floor, and built an engine around it. (Shop manager's words). Downsides were almost 3 mos in the shop for the build, oil leaks everywhere, STILL the sickest truck in the fleet. In the first year of existence at our terminal, unit #4769 accumulated more outside shop time than the rest of our fleet in their combined five year stay. Experience #2 In 1999, my father purchased an almost new 9400 (I think) IH Eagle, N14 500 hp. At around 300k mi., guess what happened- yep, didn't break the cam, but you could put your fist through the block. Cummins stated that overhead was out of adjustment, and wouldn't warranty it. Last truck with a Cummins my father owned. You hit bad apples in every batch, that's not my complaint, but the attitude Cummins exhibited when trying to make these problems right was inexcusable imho. |

| The truck in my trucking photos that I wrecked had an N-14 525 hp. Underpowered and poor mileage. The truck before that one, 525 hp N-14. Under powered and poor mileage.

| I have never understood why mechanics(at least so many of them) love N-14s so much. The most spectacular blown engines, other than run ons where the engine oil fuels the engine, that I have seen have been N-14s, Many of them are total wrecks with nothing left to salvage. There are many trucks of most makes with that family of engine, horsepower varies from the mid 300s up to about 525, I can't find where Cummins put out a higher rating of n-14, the Signature Series was the fore runner to the ISX. There are plenty of N-14s in W-9s, just no new ones. Mack used the Cummins in the Superliner, I'm not sure of the N-14 but I have seen a few with Signature 600 engines installed. |

| From what i have seen here in AU, i would suggest that the Large capacity signatures are not that bad of a motor.. That said, not many people run the isx, i wonder why...... Cummins AU have attitude also , so it must be a corporate policy. just cause i looked 17 didnt mean i didnt have the money to have a hotset done....

| See i dont get why people say they are easy to work on, to me they are a cluster fack compared to a CAT maybe because ive always worked on CATs and never cummins.

| it's funny because I've heard a mechanic talk about how easy it is to change a head gasket on a cummins with the 3 seperate heads compared to a cat. My question was how many head gaskets have you done on a cat compared to a cummins? the very thing that makes them easy cases them to have more problems in my book |
