governed truck purchase

I am thinking about purchasing a few trucks from a large carrier
but they have (govenors) or computer specs settings.
A friend told me that in order to change these settings it would cost me more than the trucks are worth.
They are 2003-2007 volvos
Anyone know how to change these settings or overide them at a cheaper cost?

Thanks

I got my speed turned up at a Detroit Dealer. It usually runs $60-75 just to turn the speed up. All they do is hook the computer up to it and change it. If you have to get the ECM reprogramed it will run more. I was told it would be $600-750. Hope this helps.

Could you please tell us what Model and Carrier they came from and the specs of them. Also, for your best speed and fuel econ, speak to Cummins VolvoTech. He might have some good insight.

Its a very simple SOFTWARE change for the speed limit setting, although they do charge for it its not more than the $ of the truck.

While they are in the program they should always ensure that the CORRECT tire size for the drives , for correct SPEED / MILEAGE readings.

Are you buying the trucks directly from the company? If so, and they have their own shop, ask the shop if they will adjust the speed.
Our company leases our tractors, and it would take about a minute to change the speed setting. All they do is hook up their wireless link to the truck, and using their desktop, they can do anything they want.
