Just wondering what you fellers' thought would be the best truck for a 6'7 man. The Peterbuilt I drove in school was great to drive, as a newbie, I guess any truck would be great to drive.
I had some problems with shifting and getting comfortable in the seat. I had to take all the tilt out of the wheel and raise it to the max just to be able to use the clutch. The instructor said I did fine but did say I would end up with a sore knee if I had to drive like that all day.
I am not a winer, but at 48 I do worry about my knees.

Just wondering if anybody had any suggestions?

Go to a used truck dealership and try out as many different ones as you can, there are seats available to help cope with problems like that as wel, but I'm not knowledgeable about those.

Western Star is roomy but not sure about for someone as tall as you.

Depending on the truck you drive , You could always move the seat back a couple of holes. I'm 6'1 and pretty confortable with my freightliner after I moved my seat back.

I forgot about him, I had a bad trip to Chi Thursday. Should be tall enough to tell the story from that perspective. He was last here 6 days ago.

One thing for sure, you don't want a Volvo or a 379 Pete.

I'm 6 foot, and find that I'm more comfortable in a Freightliner Columbia or Century class. KW T600/660 and T2000 are also comfortable. Any of those 4 will allow you to stretch out your legs. The bunk area is wider/longer also...so you will sleep much better IMO.

Nothing like driving a truck all day, then having to unfold your self...only to fold yourself back up....to sleep.

I think the pete 379 is one of the better ones but it has to be a newer one with the tall cab and unibilt sleeper so you can put the seat back. the older ones can be a bear. The KW I drove was decent. Every freighliner I ever drove gave me sore knees like you said. the FLD and classics aren't bad but all the century, columbia's suck and th ecup holder is in the most wrong place it can be to wack you knee contantly. Internationals have a ton of room in them too. The one I'm driving now will put the seat back so far you can just roll into bed!! lol

i drove a 98 model 379 with a unibuilt sleeper ultracab. we unbolted the seat and moved it back and drilled new holes. hell you could slide so far back in the sleeper that you almost had to have gorilla arms to reach the steering wheel. Not near as much leg room in my 09 w900

and that was the low roof cab. A guy I worked ith was over 7 foot and about all he could drive was a 379 or FLD freightliner

Been burning diesel. And apologizing profusely to the state of Kalifornia for losing a mud flap. Gotta love them high-quality roads out there. Mudflap was there when I left the yard.. 30 miles later, mudflap AND HANGAR are gone...

Oh well,it was just a fixit.

Only took the truck stop 7 hours to replace it. Ruined an entire day.

On to the subject at hand.

Yeah, I'm 6'6",and I find that the Pete 387 is not nearly as comfortable for me as the 2005 Pete 379.

The only issue somebody else might have is in getting the seat high enough to comfortably sit all day, you might raise your eye level above the upper edge of the windshield.

Well,that and there's no place to put your right foot when using the cruise control - but none of the few trucks I've been in solved that problem. Maybe an automatic..

I have plenty of legroom otherwise,though I do have the steering wheel pulled all the way up (not for leg room, but because that's where I'm most comfortable holding it). Seat is in the same position (re: holes and the floor plan) as it was when I took over the truck. I don't THINK May has anybody else my size ....

The bunk is comfy. *plenty* long and wide enough- though I'm not about to try the upper bunk. That split mattress looks... well, I'm sure Dante encountered something like it.

Oh! yeah, if you are built like a normal human (only longer) getting between the seats is a bit of a squeeze. If you are built like a stick,no problem.

I have no problems standing up in the sleeper portion. I think there's a good 6 more inches above my head.. I could probably wear one of those fan-like hair-do's from Babylon 5 and get away with it.

There are some design issues I ...take issue with. Right off the top- the CB hangs from the knick-knack shelves. No biggie if you are normal, but it's right in my line of sight for the center-right windshield. Not a problem driving, but occasionally I need to see right there.

No radio volume control in the sleeper. What moron skipped that essential feature?

The "ceiling" light in the sleeper is actually against the back wall. Does me Jack Good, really. Sure,there are smaller lights to take up the slack, but it's still badly designed.

Can't get to the cubbies (the external storage closets) from inside the truck.

But that's all about convenience, not comfort.

For us hyperaltitudinal types, comfort is fine. Additionally, I find the ride is better than the 387, too.
