The used ones with 430 horsepower Detroit engines were geared 2.79 with 22.5 low rubber and 10 speed direct transmissions. Direct transmissions have less internal friction from the gears inside turning more slowly. Schneider tractors, the regular Pumpkins had Detroit engines at 370 horsepower and final drive ratio of 2.93, talking to their drivers, they routinely got the best mileage of any large company truck with a 10 speed transmission. I think the secret is that they were governed out high enough and told to run slowly enough that the governed speed seldom came into play.

Thanks 25+2. Heres what amazes me: You have Swift buying Freightshakers with 2.93's and Volvos at 3.55's. However, I do not know if the volvos have o/d or not. It seems all are bad and all big companies do not know how to spec trucks except the smaller ones and the guys heading the lease dept. Seems they know how to spec trucks after looking at SNI's off Truckpaper.

It's not a matter of knowing how to spec a truck right for the road, it's about specing a truck right for the company's bottom line. They want equipment that will move freigght from point A to point B for as little as possible cost in said equipment.

Sorry Hunter, but you help make my point, ATS no longer is buying any Volvo's. They have had too many problems keeping them on the road. Of all the brands that they buy, Volvo's are the most problematic. Oh, and they buy all other brands, Freightshakers, Pete's, Internationals, and now KW's.

Cool, didnt mean to offend anyone. As to the Cornbinders, I have only seen the Prostars in the yard. I was told that we dont have any on the road yet, but I am pretty sure we have one or two. They arent bad looking trucks,IMHO, but I have heard that the midroofs dont have very much storage inside. Cant say either way for sure tho. The rumor is that ATS has bought a KW dealership and we will be getting some 660's soon. Some say they have seen them at the yard. I hope so, especially if they get the studio package. That may be too much to ask for tho! Here's hopin!

pathfinder, if ATS did indeed buy a KW dealer, then you guys are lucky. I know of one other trucking company that owns a dealer and thats Transcarriers who own a Pete dealer in TN I believe. I'd like to some true numbers in comparing the Prostar and T660 in fuel mpg's. you still in the Vulva?

The prostar looks goofy with the full flaring package that puts the flares just off the pavement.
