Go with the freightliner. Volvos have many electrical problems and are not worth the money. Have you thought of an international 9400I or 9200I?
KHelpuft Thanks this. -
Why can't everyone get that big Pete or KW? I did when I started.
Of the choices, I guess I would say the FL because they are (literally) a dime a dozen. Tons of dealers. I never drove a Volvo so I can't compare the ride (though I hear it's the best).
I would just go and find some trucks you like, regardless of name, test drive them, crawl all over them, inspect them, and just pick the one that fits you best and you can make the best deal for.elpuft Thanks this. -
never looked into it i see the new pro star they have but that is house money lol

I will tell you from a technician point of view to go with a Freightliner, minus the Mercedes engine. They are easier to work on, easier to get parts and have a bigger dealer network. There are more of them out there, most techs will be more familiar with them over a Volvo. Volvo's are a nice truck, it just seems that you need to be Volvo dealer to be able to deal with them. For example, if you have a Freightliner with a Cummins you can go to any dealer that is also a Cummins dealer. If the Volvo you buy has a Volvo engine, you are pretty much limited to a Volvo dealer.
I am a International tech, and as Kinghunter mentioned you should also consider Internationals. They make excellent starter trucks. As for who has the best mileage, that is impossible to answer. Too many variables, engines, driving styles, gear ratio, blah blah blah... One tip I have, please don't worry about how much chrome, or how many lights the truck has, these things don't make you any money!TruckerNerd, TURKER and The Challenger Thank this. -
Heavy how can I get manuals for my truck? Owners manual and Electrical system, primarily. I'd like to know what the switchon the upper bunk support bracket is? how is the AC wired into the fan-clutch... I like to know all about my vehicles. Already have engine manuals... Thanks... Oh duh 2002 9200i 72" condo
To the OP.. I really like the International. Good ride, as quiet as most, well laid out dash(easy reach), lots of space, wish mine didn't have a super 10 but thats a whole other discusion.....Nothing wrong with it I just prefer a 13. -
As for owners manual, I can DL that for you from our tech site. PM me for more info on that. As for the A/C, it will depend on what engine you have, and if you have an APADS module or not. CAT, the A/C high pressure switch is wired as an input to the ECM and the engine will command the fan. Cummins the high pressure switch is between the ECM and fan and the switch will cut power to the fan solenoid and turn the fan on. APADS modules work like their own little ECM. If you give me the last 8 numbers/letters of your VIN I can send you some info.

That's like asking to choose between sliding down razor blades or a sharp stick in the eye......
All kidding aside......
