Safety Pass Pro

Does anyone have any experience with one of these units? I don't want to use it to bypass a governed company truck, as my 780 is open now, but want to set the governor to 65 for Ontario & Quebec, and use this so I won't get run over in the USA.

Didn't say what engine. If Cummins, they have the software free on their site. You just need a laptop and the connection cable kit they have which is a little pricey. Then you can set whatever parameters you like.

yes I have the ISX, but was concerned about warranty issues if I went the laptop software route. But using the Safety Pass might also be a problem, which is why I posted.

Are you certain about this? I see the quickcheck software for $15.00 but my understanding that is just for information not to set parameters.... By all means I may just be overlooking what you are refering to.

I would go with a Bully Dog downloader. Not only will you be able to change the speed governor, but also gain a little hp/tq and fuel mileage. These units can be used without leaving any mark of use in the ECM so it won't void your warranty. Plus once you buy the unit you can get the newest downloads and features for the rest of its life.

I will have to look at the Cummins website again. I downloaded the software for free, just haven't invested in the hookup controller. There is the quickcheck version, but I am referring to the software that allows you to change parameters. Also, who cares if the ECM shows you changed anything... unless you don't own the truck. It doesn't matter if you changed the speed limiter 5 minutes before you cross into Ontario and change it back as soon as you come out. Have no experience with the Bully Dog program. Have not heard much about it. But, if it allows you to do some things that the free software from Cummins doesn't and it is real cost effective, then you might want to try it. Cummins counts on you getting their connection cables and hits you pretty hard in the wallet for a simple set of cables and controller (last I checked, I think the controller and cables were ballpark $800). That is why the software is free. It will only work with their controller and cables (so actually, maybe it shouldn't be referred to as free afterall). You do have to call your Cummins shop to get an activation code (also free) for the software to work. I guess that would mean you have to own the truck and not be doing this in a company ride.

And, since you would be using Cummins software and controller.... no warranty issues to deal with. Since you get the activation code from Cummins themselves, they know what you are doing. It is only going in and "hacking" an ECM that would cause any warranty issues. The Cummins software is not going to let you do more than what any Cummins shop would do, including turning up the power a few HP. If it is real power you are looking for, then forget the other crap and get the Pittsburgh Power Box. Proven product that will not destroy an ECM and you can change the power settings "on the fly" and not have to go thru any hookup process like other units. Up to 700+ HP out of an ISX on the top setting. But anyone putting that much power out better know how to use it or that engine will be toast. Also, when turning up any engine to higher HP settings, a monitoring of the EGT is essential!! The Power Box will monitor Boost and EGT and will turn back the fuel if parameters reach critical levels.

I don't need to mess with any of the other engine specs, it's a 530 already, and does good on fuel for me. I might like to tighten up by a mile per hour or two the setting for when the jakes come on when the cruise is on, but other than that and the 65 mph for Ontario, that's it.

Not to chastize you, but there is always room for fuel improvement in any vehicle. The fuel savings is pretty much pure profit. Call Bully Dog and I'm positive that you will like what they have to say. Also right now they have a $280 rebate going on until the end of August (the unit cost $2800 originally).
