3406E-coolant line btw. rear engine/tran

Ok, we are having to have Cat do an inframe-yeah expensive "ouch" because the coolant line between the rear of the engine and the transmission cooler failed. We did not know that there was such a hose o nthe 3406E. Anyway, when they fail-in an instant temp. goes sky high and cooks the liner, engine, etc. Needless to say truck stopped within minutes of this happening without warning. Lucky hubby was within a couple hundred miles of home and got truck towed rest of the way. Anyhow, if any of you out there are running a Cat 3406E, pay attention to this part. Hubby is meticulous about making sure all hoses are OK but did not know we had this particular hose on the Kenworth.

Hi David. It is a $35,000 rebuild. When that hose went, the temp fried everything. But at least he will have a 400,000 mile four year warranty when it is done.

you are getting ripped off big time

example fyda freightliner has 50 3406e takeout engines they are selling for $5000 obo you can probably get one for 4000 less than 2 months ago a buddy of mine had his 3406e motor completely rebuilt and upgraded to a 550 with all cat parts reman head new turbo (1500) new manifold and the computer reflashed all for about $9300

$4000 + $9300 = add about $2000 labor to swap it out another $750 for a new clutch less than $17000

$35000? wow

Yes I agree its way to much for just an overhaul.Remove that POS trans cooler!!! When the cooler goes bad it fills up your transmission with coolant.

A friend had two motors done recently, one was 20K the other was 26K and i thought that was steep? The 26K motor needed just about everything(air to air and everything else...). 35K would be a heck of a start on a brand new motor????
Best wishes... david

You have to take out the crank or block to get 35k invested kind of hard to do if you still had oil pressure.
