I need to correct myself here, the NTPA just started a super stock 4x4 diesel pickup class that allows for mechanical or electronic motors for the 2010 year that will run for state and regional points. From the way I read the rules this class is real similar to what the Illinios State Tractor Pullers have currently.

I still want to know what kind of driveline they are running to hold up to that punishment!

I do agree with Rob, i highly doubt they use them for everyday use. I'm sure it could be possible, but no one seems to have the answer or wants to answer.

Back to the 2500hp thing again....
Fuel supply, this is what I have been thinking so far...my maths can be pretty rough and I've made a few assumptions so feel free to pick it to bits if you can see any faults in my calculations, V8Lenny I'm looking at you
Our aim is 2500HP at 3000RPM
A factory marine 1000hp C18 makes 1000hp burning approx 50 gallons of fuel per hour.
So I will assume to make around/over 2500hp we need around 150 gallons/hour (a generous estimate).

Our 10R0959 injectors have a plunger diameter of 10.98mm
The 1000hp cam (biggest factory one can find) has an injector lobe height of 10.445mm
The injector rocker ratio is almost exactly 1.5:1
Therefore we have 15.668 of plunger travel at the injector.
Injector plunger area is 94.689mm2
Therefore the maximum volume posssible to be injected if the solenoid was on for the entire lenght of the stroke would be 1483.587mm3.
I think the injector couldnt inject the full amount of fuel under the plunger (what with pressure rise time, leak past, not 100% filling and other factors) so I think 80% is a fair estimate, so our injector is capable of injecting 80% (Far Call, you may have insite here if this estimate is wrong) of the volume, ie. 1186.87mm3 of fuel

At 3000rpm there are 9000 injector firing shots per minute (a 6 cyl 4 stroke engine fires 3 injectors for each revolution)
So 9000 firing shots at 1186.87mm3 is 10681830mm3 or 10681.830cc

150gallon/hour converts to 2.5 gallon/minute
2.5 gallons = 9463.529cc

So in conclusion our engine requires 9463.529cc/minute to make 2500hp at 3000rpm, our fuel system should in theory be able to supply 10681.830cc/minute at 3000rpm, more than enough to make 2500hp.

What do we think? plausable or have I missed something?

Personally I don't think a electronic motors fuel system will be able to deliver that kind of fuel. If they are pushing 3000 HP then pretty much everything is a one-off design or aftermarket and I don't see the trucks living in a everyday trucking enviroment that we think of...some people have a different idea of what a "everyday work truck" is. I will say this...for the super semis in the NTPA to push 3000+ HP a special sygma pump is needed to supply enough pressure and volume. Also with that much fuel going in your gonna have boat loads of heat to deal with. The heat alone makes the 3000 HP with out water injection very very doubtful. A person may get away with one or two runs, but after that the pistons are gonna be chunks of aluminum.

As for the driveline...a stock over-the-road drive train will handle most of the abuse, except for the clutch. I'm guessing these guys are running pure custom built clutches or custom Lipe clutches. The driveshafts and u-joints are pretty stout in the stock for if care is taken inspectin them. But just to be safe, thicker walled driveshafts are available and I would guess there are stronger u-joints on the market.
