Smokin809 is right about the wheel speed difference. All the super semi pullers carry huge amounts of wheel speed from start to finish. Also bern the sled pull vid that you posted and NTPA pulls (were Hibbits pulls) have many differences. The biggest is the hitch height, sled chain length, and hitch mount. Also NTPA and for that matter every professional pulling series in the USA prohibit shifting of gears (in a manual transmission) once the pull has started. These factors alone make a considerable difference. Now comparing the Hibbits motor to what you guys are doing up there can not be done. These are two different types of sports (sled pull and uphill drag racing). You maybe right that the Hibbits motor wouldn't stack up against the northeren boys, but the only way we will ever know is to run them against each other. I do have to say that I am just blown away by the shear amount of HP/TQ that Coga, Bouchard, Couture and many others are putting out along with having great looking rides to boot. My family is salivating at the chance to just go and watch one of the rodeos (okay my wife just wants to go on a vacation anywhere). I'm looking forward to seeing this thread and ideas develop in the future.

Pre C15 engines had a 1/2 inch thick plate between the block and sump and used every bolt hole in the bottom of the block, around the time of the C15 they deleted this plate to save weight, instead fitting a much lighter internal plate which only goes forward as far as about number 3 main, these engines used a sump with a rubber isolation seal instead of the paper gasket found on older engines, they only use every second bolt hole to hold the sump up. All C15/16s (that I have seen) had this internal strengthener plate and to my knowledge had no problems but today in the time of the Acert the 1/2 thick spacer is back on the parts list, it is now refered to as a "heavy duty" sump assembly.
Why the need for this heavy duty plate again?, I hear rumors from a very reliable source that out west (road train country) Acerts not fitted with the thicker plate are twisting the block and breaking number 2 main bolts and then the crankshaft.
Anything that helps prevent block twist has got to be good in my book, a couple of extra pound wont hurt if your chasing big power.

I think a few French Canadians should make the trip to Ohio or Penn, to truck pulling country, use NTPA rules, see how they compare.

Smokin809

Here in Canada we are not allowed to use nitrous oxide or water injection, only a few racers use two turbos; all others use only one turbo. At St-Joseph de Beauce 2009, it was CANADA vs USA...only two trucks from USA showed up, not impressive to say the least!!! We race licenced working highway trucks. We don't like to race against our own shadows...we like racing side by side to see who's the best driver and who has the best truck...SORRY we are truckers able to shift gears.

Those are working trucks? Much more impressive.

I think it's time to get a passport and see these in person. Is anything coming up in the spring or do I have to wait until labor day?
