im curious how come nobody uses a 2 stroke detroit for a pulling truck. I know it doesnt have the most torque down low, but I thought this engine was supposed to be a big hp motor on the top end

They say it's the most efficient engine to convert fuel into noise. In the 60s and 70s it was known for power because it was easier to get high hp parts than to other engines. That was because Detroit used same type of parts, like injectors, from small to big engines.

Just think of the extra power you'd get when the blower seal goes and runs away on the diesel powered noisemaker.

This is a tough question to answer. There are many factors here. Generally the purse amount varies from pull to pull depending on how many vehicles have entered and how much the event sponsors have contributed. Usually the amount is near the $1500-2000 mark. Also there are chances to win some money with contigency money. If the person pre-commits to pull at all sanctioned NTPA events where their class is pulled there are free entry, a year end pay out for making all pulls, and a few other perks. I don't have a end of year championship payout handy, but if I remember right the top runner gets somewhere near $8000. Also the amount of hooks changes from year to year becasue the classes get changed up at some of the events to keep fans from getting bored with the same thing every year. Some classes like the modifies 4x4 will have more than 40 events a year and the super semis have about 20-30 if I remember right. OSTPA (Ohio State Tractor Pullers) has a pro stock semi class that has a limit of one turbo, but I don't follow this sanctioning body as much as I should

bern009...if you want help with how to build a big HP/TQ motor that will compete with the big dogs you need to help contribute more than just videos. Yeah the videos are nice and I have seen them all on youtube before, but we need specifics like the rule, your truck, your budget, and a few other things. This thread won't go near as far if you don't contribute useful info.

I'm no big detroit fan but you have to admit two stoke V8s sound very tough and they can make some horsepower. Search you tube for the "bandag bullet".

Not the best video for sound but you get the idea.

Many years ago the local Bandage dealer had one of the Bandage Bandit trucks on display for a couple of days...the truck and its construction was very impressive. The driver started it two or three times and just blipped the throttle a few times. This was enough to get my attention and had my Dad dragging me away from the event kicking and screaming...I'm still this way. but now my wife is the one draggin me away.
