We are new to the industry (almost 1 year) and my husbands truck needed maintance and they routed him in to his home garage/base and now the rumor is he isn't going to get paid for his time off the road because he is home, which is looking like 2 1/2 weeks to fix the truck...if he had to have the work done on the road he would have gotten paid for down time and even a motel.

He can't get a hold of anyone to get the final word on this because they are on vacation. Does anyone have any bright ideas on this?

    :biggrin_25512:I don't get it.

If he was off for 2 1/2 weeks at home he hasn't done any work to be paid for. They should've put him in another truck it sounds like at least till his was fixed. Is this a small company with limited trucks?

He has been home 1 1/2 weeks and saying the truck won't be ready until the 10th and now they are talking about finding him a truck.

Ya, twt is pretty small in comparison but they have other trucks. I don't think they originally thought it would take this long...but is this common to not pay? My husband didn't ask to come home to get it fixed he told them his check engine light was on and they scheduled a load into here.

I just feel like they are taking advantage at our expense. That equals a $0 paycheck...that could get us kicked out of our house...

    Just scary times for everyone.

No it does not always work this way. Unfortunately right now time are tough for most people especially trucking industry as a whole. Yes if you sit at home you don't get paid even though it was not his choice to be sitting at home. I imagine they were just trying to save costs doing it in their own shop as most would do. Unfortunately they really have done nothing wrong. Plenty companies do a lot worse. I know people who are out on the road and set for several days on the road with no runs making no money too and away from home = more expenses & no money. Hopefully they will get him a truck and run him good for a few weeks to help you get caught up. Good luck

Thanks for the insight...wouldn't it be nice to find a company that is as loyal, honest and hard working as they demand of their employees...I know...wake up lady this isn't even close to heaven is it?

TWT is good too, they do keep my husband moving...he sits very little between loads. When you are hanging by a thread and you see it fraying out on the ends panic can creep up on you.

    Thanks again.

What kind of repairs are taking 2 1/2 weeks? I have had 4 out of 6 sleeve packs replaced at Cat before and it only took 4 days. Are they rebuilding the truck or waiting on parts? Either way I wouldn't have sat more than a week without burning up some phone lines trying to get a new truck. Sounds like they are doing you wrong but I don't know the company either. I know when I drove for Millis years ago when they decided my truck needed to go in for an extended stay they had me drop it off and when to grab a different truck. They then gave me option to keep that truck or take my old one back post repairs. Let us know how this works out. I know I am curious.

I think it is standard in this industry that you will not get paid for breakdowns if you are at your home. It has been that way for me at every company I have worked for anyway. Best of luck neighbor...I hope your husband gets on the road fast.

Check engine light was on and the air conditioner was working part of the time. They first they thought they would have him on the road by Friday then Tuesday then the following Tuesday kind of thing. No extra trucks for him to go on the road in....something about they had the send truck somewhere else or parts in from somewhere else. He hit a retread the week before that did something to the brakes but I think that was fixed then and there...they had been tweaking the truck here and there with the air conditioner and check engine light....I hope they got to the root of the problem now. He has had enough down town for the rest of the year...he had been trying to stay on the road all but 2 days a month which always turns into 3 or 4 waiting for the load back out. They always get him home a day late so we are on to that now if there is something specific he needs to be home for we ask for the day before then start calling in for a load a day before he is really ready to go back. It is a good company and nice people but that doesn't pay the rent when the truck isn't on the the road. I will ask him when he gets up if they have told him specifically what they are fixing. He might have told me but all I heard was blah blah blah, sometimes I don't have the energy to understand it all. I understand that in two weeks there will not be a pay check...I get that.

LOL That's what my wife says. Everything minus the pay goes out the other ear. It used to not be a problem. Companies were in a better position to support their drivers when things like this come up. The economy has put a hurting on nearly all of the companies and even when a driver gets pushed up against the wall (like in your case) they're kinda stuck because jobs don't fall off of trees any more. It seams I see a lot of experienced drivers making the hard decision to get off the road for good due to lack of pay for some reason or another.

I will send a best of luck your way and I hope the truck gets back on the road before you either loose too much or have to ask the big question as well.
