Not really lease ops have option between Pete's or old freights. And I see plenty of company drivers out here with Pete's. If the truck # begins with a l its a lease if its just numbers its a company driver truck

Hello Everyone!!!!
Im just looking for a bit of advice. I recntly as many people became unemloyed and just as a coincidence my fiance was on a short break from his job as well. I decided to make an appointment for him with a recruiter in our local are in miami. (he has a class B cdl with all the endorsments) However when we got there the recruiter keep suggesting to us to consider driving as a team and introduce USX to us as a great company. I will be honest I ride a motorcycle and insitinctively big rigs is what I fear the most, but again there is nothing I am not willing to learn. I work for an airline for over 8 years, I have very little bills and I love to drive long distance. I think it would be a great experince for me and my fiance since there is no urgency to get home, but I would like to ask for guidance from those of you who are already there.
We live in Miami and we both have bikes, we have a lot of fun together and now we are willing to take on the rest of the country, while making money!!!
Any response is welcome, positive and negative -
Team driving can be a lot of fun, but it is also hard work. My husband and I drove team for 8 years, then I had some health problems and had to stay home for 3 years. He took a dedicated, 500 mile run, 5 days a week, with the LTL company we worked for. He has done the run for 3 years now, but the past 3 months has only worked about 3 days a week, due to the company loosing a contract. We decided to go back to team driving and, after looking at many companies, chose USX. The pay for teams is very high, considering the tough economic times, and their equipment seems great, too. It has been a difficult decision to make for him to leave a good company he has been with for 9 years. Next year he would start getting 3 weeks of paid vacation a year, and their vacation pay is what you actually make in a week while working, not $250 like a lot of companies pay. He is willing to take a risk on USX and give up his great job so we can have the opportunity to make more money and prepare for our future retirement.
Team driving can be very rewarding, but take some advice, make sure you both get your sleep while on the road. When you don't, you become unsafe and also tend to fight a lot. That was the problem with the company my husband currently for, they run their teams on short little runs, a lot of them less than 200 miles, and it was difficult to get good sleep. We thought it was great if we just got a 500 mile trip! Most companies try to run their teams at least 1000 miles or more on trips. That is the only way a team can make good miles, by running long trips. During the 8 years we drove team we made anywhere from $98,000 - $120,000 a year. File long form on your taxes and you get a deduction for perdiem. Our first year we got a tax refund of $8,000. But you have to have an address to go home to in order to qualify for perdiem (IRS rules). My opinion, USX is a great choice for a team to go with, new or experienced. -
Thank you for your response, I am just learning to navigate this blog!!!! lol... I am excited but nervous, it is such a change from my previous life but I love everything I hear about this industry even with all the set backs and the economy changes. Thank You Shadow777

USX is defenitly the place to go for good mileage pay.. lots of other companies hiring beginer drivers arent paying nearly as much if the miles are here you can make good money with USX. Teaming is tough in my opinion I tried it once but couldnt get the hang of it I never knew where I was when I woke up. and you dont make any money unless your constantly moving... I take my fiance out with me once and a while but its different because when im done driving the truck doesnt move. getting use to sleeping in a moving truck takes a lot of trust in your co driver ... Im not a verry trusting person.. but every one is different and I believe with USX you have to be Dedicated , Team, or lease op to make money .... as a Company driver I do well but i can tell i get the left over loads and im sure my luck will run out soon

I'm interested in USX and would like to drive team. Does USX pair you up with another driver to go team since i have no one lined up? I drove team back in '85 for a few years and really enjoyed it. Had to quit for personal reasons. Since it's been over 25 years since I've last drove, I signed up at a truck driving school and will be going to school at end of Aug and will graduate in mid Oct. Thanks.
