Starting a new career with USX
I just received a pre hire letter yesterday for USX. I don't have my CDL yet so after exploring every option I could to get in a school, Road masters in West Memphis has been the one that has come through for me. The road they took was to try to get me pre hired with a company first to secure my tuition funding and then get me in a class.
Well my recruiter at Road masters called today and said everything is good to go and I can start class either on the 4th or the 11th so I opted for the 11th of June. I've been crawling these forums trying to find as much info as I can on companies and trucking in general but still have sooo many questions.
One in particular if anyone from USX can answer for me... I live in N. Little Rock, AR and from what I've been seeing posted on here is a lot driving in the NE region. Does USX move a lot of freight through Arkansas or SW region? Also, I'm looking to go solo as soon as possible but I understand as a newbie I have to do team driving for 8 weeks. I saw on another thread however that if you are going into a dedicated route, you don't have to do the teams. Is that an option for me as a newbie or do I just need to suck it up and get through the 8 weeks?
Thanks in advance for any and all feedback.Last edited by DaReallyst; 05.25.2012 at 05.14 PM.

Hey I also went to road master in west Memphis and I start with usx on Tuesday. From what I gathered from usx that no matter what you have to do that 8 weeks of training with someone. But it will be fine. Good luck

Hey Rocweiler thanks for the info. How was school at Road Master? They are suppose to make accommodations for my lodging for the 3 weeks of school. Is the lodging some type of dorm where you are sharing the room with 3 or 4 other people? Good luck on Tuesday and hope to see you soon out there!

Rroadmaster
Roadmaster is really good school they drill that crap into you. You will leave knowing what you need to know . There is a instructor there name Ronny he is real old school but is real funny sometimes but he will get on you after you screw up about 30 times then he will just tell you to get out of the truck pickle head and he will show how to do it. As far a the motel it's the red roof inn next to casino .it all apart of your tuition. If you graduate on time.
But you will have one roommate no matter what even if your first one leave you will get another very soon
no breakfast it's a donute and juice and all other meals are on you.

Great! I can't wait! I wish I could have started on the 4th but I have to run to Dallas on the 8th so I had to wait until the 11th to start.

When u get ur book be sure to read 12345 and six they are short chapters but that's all you need to know to pass the permit test. Chapters 1234 are the general kknowledge part 5 is the air brakes and 6 is combonation read them over and over and will pass with no problems

Okie-dokie...........I'm waiting for tuition assistance for NATIONAL TRAINING, which has a class beginning 06/23/12 that I hope to be in. After that I'm leaning toward USX in Jacksonville, FL., especially since the terminal is near me!
Ya'll please keep this thread going....we'd all like to hear from each of you since you're in different stages of school, training, and working for USX.
THanks, and good luck!
