Been at USX for a year. They will put you on a dedicated account with zero experience. If you suck at it then they will take you off of it fast. I highly recommended dedicated. You make more money doing dedicated than doing OTR. You'll still see the country.
We are on the Ceva dedicated. Has a 4,700 mile guarantee. Read my thread to find out why we love it.zackery2011 and Wild Murphy Thank this. -
Hometime in trucking is terrible. Most companies who claim to get you home twice a week is misleading. Your home long enough to do a reset. That means they expect you to drive off one minute after your reset is complete.
Look for a local driving job. That way your going to be home everyday. I mean this in a good way....I don't think you'll last at OTR very long. Being away from family for weeks is rough. Some guys are under a load but can't take it anymore and will park the truck, get a rental car and go home. That pretty much kills your career.
Think long and hard about what you want to do. Maybe a straight tuck job that's home daily is a better fit for you.
This website is a tremendous tool for new drivers. Use the search function. -
I have been at the Oilfields of North Dakota since last August. I have only been back to see family one time for a week. The main reason I am going into trucking is that I will see them way more than I have been. I want to do my time now so I can get a good local route... I appreciate your advice tho...
