Hey guys I acquired my class A almost 3 years ago and I haven't been in a tractor since. I have orientation scheduled with Us Xpress next month and I'm nervous about the road test. I dont know how to drive manual I took my road test in an automatic 3 yrs ago at school. I explained to the recruiter that I have no experience whatsoever. I don't want this to ruin my chance of becoming eligible for training because I'm really looking forward to learning. Can someone offer me some insight or am I just overreacting.

Nice try? I'm just curious because I feel rust especially with backing and off set.

try to ask for an automatic, It took me a while to learn the shift patterns for a 10 speed manual, I am looking at the companies that drive autos so I can concentrate on traffic instead of missing a stupid gear when I downshift.

Find a local Truck Driving school around and see what they would charge for "X" amount of refresher training.

Realistically you need to get into a refresher program first. Finding an Auto shift at US Xpress these days are very far and few. If you can't shift, you'll fail and be sent home. Period.

Dude, most outside drivers think USX completely transitioned to autos. There's gotta be at least a thousand in the fleet I'd think we how many more they ordered this year.

OP, are you sure they'll actually take you being that long without driving or a refresher. You may actually NEED to take a refresher to be hired.

The company has a lot of automatics still. Ask for an auto for the road test.

I signed up for a refresher course I'm getting 2 hrs for $150. I'm going to need at least another 2 classes. Driving stick on a truck is totally different than a car especially because of the double clutch. I'll do my best because I'm running out of $$ for these courses. Thanks guys I appreciate the comments.

Well I told the the recruiter I have no experience whatsoever. But they don't care I think they just want to get paid by filling up the classrooms. Pass or fail they still get some type of commission.
