The cameras are programable, The company that i was wth that had cams, the inside camera would turn of when you set you tractor brakes.

If you're just entering the industry now and I you plan to remain in the industry for 20 years or more, there is a very good chance that you will have a camera in the truck with you at some point.

Since that laptop is owned and maintained by my company, they could easily install software which turned that camera on and recorded everything I did and said while in my office and I would never know it.

They could also install software which monitors everything I type, every website I go to, every email I read or respond to and everything else I do with that computer. I seriously doubt my company does it but TONS of companies do and I wouldn't have the slightest problem if mine did too. Why? Because I have no expectation of privacy when I'm in my office or anywhere else on company property including when I'm in one of our trucks or in a meeting with one of our vendors or customers.

When it comes to you and a private entity such as a company, things get fuzzier. You have the right to free speech. But you come in my house you only have the right to speech that I decide to allow. Same with a company. Go ahead and hang a sign on your company truck that says I hate <insert minority group> and then tell HR that you have a right to free speech and see how it works out for you. There are indeed laws that protect your privacy in certain circumstances and pretty much any one of them contains a clause which renders it null and void if prior consent is granted. Employment is 'at will' pretty much everywhere so employers are free require employees grant consent to anything they like and employees are free to go work someplace else if they don't like it. IOW rights don't enter into this discussion at all.

a company is not above rights, and they will over step with the cameras eventually, they have to abide by laws and regulations as well . it's easy to over step with things like video and audio recording.
