My husband and I are currently team driving for a small OTR company where we are treated very well, but not paid the best (.32 CPM avg. 2500-4000 miles a week). We love the people, but not the paychecks. Is switching to US Xpress advisable? The recruiter we talked to promised as many miles as we could drive, brand new equipment, and .44 CPM starting with a bonus of .22 CPM after 18,000, although to the best of my knowledge there is no such thing as an honest recruiter.
Anyone have experience teaming with US? Are the miles really there? And the pay? I had heard something about a sliding scale that they sneak onto their solo drivers, is that something they do to their teams also?
We had also asked the recruiter about their policy on stopping in bad conditions.. With winter around the corner we don't want to be pushed into driving through blizzards and across skating rinks if it gets too dangerous. She swore they always tell their drivers to stop if the weather gets nasty but again... Recruiters lie.
We're not overly concerned with home time.. It would be nice to get back every month or so if we could, but home is where ya make it, I guess.
How about the equipment? Do they have inverters, fridges, etc.? Is the insurance halfway decent?
Would It be a good place to work for a team trying to bank money and willing to run hard?

Any advice anyone has would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank!

Wife and I team at US Xpress for almost 2 years now, we can answer some of your questions.

    1. We would advise to switch because the miles are there and the pay is much better than where your at.

    2. A team we know did 8,200 miles in 8 days 2 weeks ago. You can expect in a month to average 5,000 - 6,000 miles, however, you might have one week that is 4,500 miles and you might have another that is 6,000 or more miles.

    3. You can expect either a 2014 but more than likely a 2015 Cascadia automatic. They have a few 10 speeds and you can always make a request on your preference and they'll try to accommodate.

    4. That bonus is for teams that do OTR, we haven't done that in so long so I cant answer that. 46 cpm if you don't have hazmat but 48 cpm if you both do. You'll get 48 cpm on all loads even if its not hazmat, you get 48 cpm simply for having your hazmat endorsements. We haul hazmat very rarely.

    5. US Xpress got rid of the sliding pay scale for solo drivers, it never applied to teams.

    6. Its true that the company leaves it up to you to decide if you need to pull over because the road conditions are bad. They will never push you on that.

    7. Where do you both live ? We live in Chicago and US Xpress has always gotten us home a day or half a day early. We've also taken our hometime in vacation spots. That's always an option for you.

    8. They will install your inverter for free. Can't be over 1,700 watts. No fridges in the truck but you can put one in yourself. We have 2 coolers in our truck that plug into the 12v.

    9. Health insurance is through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Tennessee. Dental is through Delta Dental. Both are good. Health Insurance costs us $87 each. We have no kids.

    10. Its a good place to work. What we always tell people is to get on a dedicated account right when you start. Talk with your recruiter. Teams on dedicated accounts tend to have more consistent miles which equates to a better paycheck. That's why that 22 cpm bonus doesn't apply to teams on dedicated accounts. Dedicated accounts pay anywhere from 46 cpm and up. The dedicated account we're on pays us 50 cpm.

    Good luck !

Truckduo, are you able to run all 48 states on a dedicated account? Or are you running back and forth to the same place all the time? Also I see that usx requires 3 months experience. My brother and I are going to cdl school in the next couple months. Will usx hire us right out of school?

Do you have to run all 48 States or can you run from like NC to Fl on dedicated run? How long are you OTR for at a time?

If they have a run like that open then yes but those good gigs don't always open up.

I just did my application to US Xpress. been awhile since I did OTR, but I was pleased to hear that a dedicated account with "Dollar Tree" is available for Midwest States! I'm quite happy to say...I have finally stopped looking for the big buck local gigs, and have decided to go with a carrier that has stepped up it's game recently and offers a solid income:biggrin_25519:.
Good luck to all and be safe out there!

Was just at the DC in Joliet a couple days ago. Looks like they are expanding. If you can hack it Im sure there is plenty of opportunity there.
