I'm headed to orientation but I'm still not sure what's the best choice in training to do dedicated or otr. Give me accurate feedback please as I've heard mixed reviews

it all depends. Dedicated Conway or UPS is a cake walk, dedicated Taylor Farms no thanks.

I like western region some drivers like 48, just personal preference.

Go with OTR dedicated. See the country. RR Donnelly dedicated at US Xpress is mostly drop & hook.

Talk with a recruiter about what other openings they have for solo drivers in the dedicated division. If your a rookie, stay away from Dollar Tree or similar accounts that make you unload.

Do you want to be a trucker or a common laborer. Those Dollar accounts are the same as many other trucking company accounts. You back down alleys to stores with no docks, then listen to the store employees whine; "What took you so long to back in, no one else has that problem?" or "What's taking so long to unload truck driver, we need to get this truck unloaded, we have work to do." Don't waste the money you spent on CDL school to be a laborer. You could have become a lumper/laborer without spending your hard earned tuition money on CDL school. Heed the advice of "Truckduo", They've been at this long enough they know what they're talking about.

Chinatown thank you so much for the kind words!

It's true, we've been doing this for about two yrs now and those dollar accounts are just not worth the amount of effort you have to put into it. There's always openings because guys don't last long.

My wife has the best quote about these dollar accounts. "You haul a lot of 'dollars' but you make none yourself"

If you're still not convinced just take a look around this forum at some of the pics other drivers have posted about their nightmare backing experiences at these places. It's the stuff sleepless nights are made of

yep. I don't recommend the Dollar accounts unless youre into hard labor LOL. Don't worry about the title "OTR" Vs "dedicated" For all intents and purposes if you put down on your next application that you were with a company that runs OTR that will be the assumption and you will get credited as experienced OTR even if you only ran a few states. What Ive come to know as OTR experience is: Can he live in a truck for an extended period of time?

tigersroses1, yahshuah and TruckDuo Thank this.
