Spending 50 hours per week waiting for loads, looking for mt trailers and waiting for unloads. Is this common for a team operation? We are new OTR drivers and been here now about 4 months. Wondering if anyone out there has any input on our situation. I think some waiting is normal, but I think that 50 hours a week sounds excessive. For us it's the norm. Feedback? Thanks.

It depends on what you are doing. If you are on an account that has a guarantee, that guarantee is there because they know there will be a lot of other issues that might keep you from running on the account.

be glad you don't come to commiefornia. that 50 hours will easily be 70.
it takes 4 days to do 2 runs. and an entire day unloading/reloading with each run. 2 days every week sitting around.naomipdx Thanks this. -
GOSH! My Co-ord had me loaded for 2 weeks in advance and knew when I left home how long I wanted to stay out. Never worked one Holiday in all the years I was on the road. Averaged 3000 miles running to TX and back to PA or Balt-Sea. No, not normal. Go with Southern Pride. I hear they run the wheels off a Peterbilt in 2 years.

step two: figure out how many days you go out on the road; and then multiply that by 14 to get your <"total hours worked">. Then figure the gross pay for that same time period and divide that by <"total hours worked">.

1. Never do OTR at US Xpress. Otherwise, your going to have problems like this.
2. Get on a dedicated account asap. Check out my thread. It has the phone number for the woman you can talk to about which accounts are available.
3. Come back and update us on your progress. This website is a tremendous tool in having a successful trucking career.

Get everywhere early and try to get in. If they give you too much time on a load ask them where you can drop it. Make sure your PTA is always updated. No reason they can't run you into the ground.

A rough couple of days.
Dropped 5 hrs earl on a drop and hook to get to a pre plan that was scheduled as 9am pick up. Already 6 hrs late.
No empty. Sat all day at the flying j. Get a message to go to pick up an empty at the place we dropped at. No one was unloading on a Sunday.
Finally get an empty location. Get to shipper 36 hrs late. Have sat at shipper 9hrs already cause they are loading the on times.
2 hrs left on my 14.
But its OK. Cause I saved a bunch of money by switching to GEICO.
Oh. And ordered a pizza.. Should be here soon.
