I'll graduate from White Line CDL school in late November I really want a good trucking company to begin my career. I have researched plenty of companies and my head is spinning with such a Hugh decision to make. I'm looking at KLLM, US EXPRESS, SCHNEIDER, and many others. Especially trucking companies that allow rider and small dog. I just retired from the US ARMY two weeks ago. I want to be a company driver and not be pushed into a lease. I'm going to say NO to the lease and I do not want to end up on a black list. Send some advice.

all those companies don't pay well... you can do better.
last I heard USXpress makes you team with another noob for a few months AFTER you get out of training and the pat is very very low.

I had a friend who went to their orientation. The class was loaded with people. Apparently they go through hundreds of people a month. That was pretty alarming to me.

He said during the orientation they pushed very hard on the lease deal & guys that signed up left out with a truck. He and several others declined and were put on a waiting list to get a truck. Luckily, he lived in Chattanooga so he drove home that night. After a week, they still didn't have a truck to put him into unless he wanted to do the lease program. He decided not to take the job.

One huge issue for me is that he said that none of the trucks have an apu. Also, he said they don't allow you to idle the truck unless it gets below 40 degrees or above 90 degrees (or something close to those temps, I may be off a little). I would not like that myself.

    Hope this helps a little.

    Where are you located?

Prime would have paid for your school
but anyway they pay $700 while in training and .43CPM when you get out on your own

Tyson foods is .39 CPM after training

Maverick is way up their in pay for noobs also but they have auto trucks they do reefer and flatbed

Crete/Shaffer is OKAY, .35 for a year and then .44 after
I work at Crete and the trainers here are required for have 3 years experience.. they don't mess around with safety here.

There's more places but i can't remember off the top of my head.

Point being don't start for less than .35 CPM no matter where you go.

    are you kidding me?
I need the AC running when it's 45 degrees out because with the sun out because it's like 85 degrees in the truck.
Outside temp means nothing, it's what's going on in the inside that matters.

A lot of misinformation in this thread. First yes no APUs the idle policy is below 40 and 70+ Its not that unreasonable. I see guys idling in 60 degree weather and just shake my head. WE also have bunk heaters so cold isn't an issue either. Weather you have to team after upgrading depends on where you live. Trucks are a little hard to come by at the moment, they are trying to upgrade all their trucks to new and it takes time to cycle out the old. 6k trucks is a lot to cycle through. As for the pay I think its 32cpm after you upgrade and a 1 cpm bump every 3 months for the first year now. There is a link to the pay scale in one of the usx threads but Im too lazy atm to find it for you.
