Hello everyone, I am in a little bit of a bind and was hoping I could get a few suggestions from you guys as far as options go.

My friend and I are extremely interested in teaming with USX but he hasn't driven since 2011/12, and that was only for a couple of weeks. He feels that he needs a refresher prior to trying to get started with USX, but USX does not require one from him. His big fear is failing the road test and being sent home. The issue he is having with a refresher is that he does not have the money to attend one. So we are kind of between a rock and hard place and don't know what to do. Should he try and attempt the road test with no refresher, and trust that it will all come back to him? We are just afraid of one of us being sent home during orientation because both of us have to have an income coming in.

Any suggestions and advice are welcomed! Thanks!

With respect if your friend fears hes going to fail the road test then he probably will due to his nerves getting the best of him.Why are you guys so interested in USX there's many other fine companies out there..Find a company that offers a refresher program.Sounds like that's the only option for now you have. But with a total of 2 weeks driving, your friend will have to go out with a trainer once the refresher course is done.

thank you for the quick reply. We are interested in USX because of the great team pay and other things we have heard. He knows he will have to go out with a trainer and that doesn't bother him, just the idea of being sent home during orientation bothers both of us.

I don't blame ya there.I see you're from TN,how far is USX from you?I would suggest not going to orientation till your buddy feels more confident he will pass.Since he would be going out with a trainer the main thing USX will be looking at is how he handles the semi then once training is over he probably would have to take another test which would be alittle more intense.Theres a guy who drives for USX ,i'his name is TruckDuo he can better answer your questions.I think he and his wife team.

I guess I am curious; Are you comfortable with his level of driving to be in the bunk at 2am in the mountains with him at the wheel?

I think you have to be terrible to be sent home because of the road test, most companies use that as a guide for the trainer on what to work on. Good luck.

thanks for the reply! I think he will be fine after going out with a trainer. Plus once teaming I could try to help with my limited experience. I just wasn't sure what they would have him do for a road test. If it is as easy as you say I would imagine it would be fine.

I road test for USX at the tunnel hill terminal from time to time. If I know a person is going out with a trainer I wont fail them unless they run something over. If I know they are going to be a first seat driver then they have to perform well enough for me to be comfortable with them on the same road as me. Since your friend is going into training I would say the chances of him failing are very low. tell him not to worry about it and just do it.

thanks for that info! I will let him know. Btw, USX is trying to get me to start without going with a trainer, but I would prefer at least a week or two so I can knock the dust off of my driving skills a little. I just don't want us to get there and one of us not make it and have to go to a different company.
I really appreciate that info btw, I'm sure after he is with a trainer for a week it will all come back to him.

Tell him to go second and itll be a cake walk. The hard leg of the road test is the first leg.
