I am hoping someone can put me at ease or just tell me what to expect or that I am just reading too much into things.
So I applied with US Express yesterday along with my friend whom I will be teaming with (FIXED-WING) and both of us are hearing different things from scheduling and the recruiter now.
So as we understand, we will both be required to go with trainers for 175 hours, not a problem at all.
Next, we will have to do 8 weeks of required teaming, should not be a problem as that is what we want to do, team drive. However, the recruiter has not made it clear as to whether or not we will be teaming together during this period of time, and upon asking she said "You guys SHOULD be able to..." This makes me a little nervous, because if we will not be teaming right after training then I would rather go to a company that will allow us to team right after training. Does anyone know about how this works?
In addition, when we called to schedule orientation we both said that because we will be carpooling together to orientation that we would like to share the same hotel room, rather than a room with a complete stranger. It only makes sense as we plan on teaming, and will be at orientation together at the same time. The answer I was given to make this happen was to just let the hotel know when we arrive. The answer that my friend got was to make sure to call scheduling a week prior so that they could go ahead and authorize this and let the hotel know.... Again, does anyone know anything about this?
I am getting a bad feeling about this at this point, but because of the good things I have heard about teaming for them I am trying to find the right solution. I just do not want to be lied to or mislead. If it were up to me, we would show up for orientation, share the same hotel room, go out with our trainers and complete training, upgrade into our own team truck, and go out on the road to make money.
Ok, Im done now, if you guys know what we should do or have anything to add please let me know. thanks!
Getting "cold feet" after having applied to US Express yesterday...

Old Dominion hires and trains noobs out of CDL school.. if you want to team there you'll each start around .60 and top pay is reached shortly at .68 CPM and all drop and hooks.
Paid on duty time as well at over $20.
If you want to make the most $$$$$$ teaming that's the place to go -
freightwipper, Shaggy, Skydivedavec and 1 other person Thank this.

Will be home soon. I'll be able to answer your question.

I'd second old dominion. And us express is giving you the run around because they have no idea what's going to happen. Your talking to and dealing with compartmentalized robots who have no idea. They are herding the new cattle through. Deflecting and giving you nods and smiles.
Check out old dominion for sure.bubbagumpshrimp and freightwipper Thank this. -
FYI the whole "8 weeks of required teaming after training" is simply a scam for them to get a cheap drivers teaming for them.
They make solo drivers do that garbage also.. I know because a recruiter came into my CDL class and told us. -
@freightwipper and anyone else that may know....
I spoke with a manager at OD and was told they are not hiring right now in my area. Does anyone know what would need to be done to get on with them? Everything else I see says 1 year experience for them, but I sure could use that pay!
@Truckduo
thanks man, look forward to hearing from you. -
Whenever a recruiter says, they SHOULD, that means they will not...

The whole situation with US Xpress is frustrating. Fling-wing and I just want to get out there and roll tires and make money. US Xpress looks better then Tyson as far as miles and CPM is concerned, but with Tyson I don't feel like they're trying to sell us a "like new" certified pre-owned Yugo.
Old Dominion sounds awesome, but as Fling said, they tell us they aren't hiring. I appreciate everyone's help and advice. Sorry to sound like a broken record. -
If you and your partner don't get
anything in writing your screwed.
