Has anybody considered using a generator as an alternative to a APU. I have a Yamaha EF2000iS at home but have never tried it as an APU replacement but the thought has crossed my mind after being left without heat for most of the winter due to APU problems. I just had to tear my APU apart and repair it myself in a truck stop so that I would have heat. It cost me $58 of my own money, 6 hrs of my time, a sore hand and a ruined jacket. Had a couple parts left over parts when I got done but it has never worked better. USA says that APU problems are not an emergency even though it might be 20 degress outside. But, a small generator could probably power all your gadgets and a small electric space heater without any problems. Does anybody know of any good generators and how they are on gas? My Yamaha will run for over 10 hrs on less than a gallon at half power but Im not sure how well it would hold up under extensive use and it was kinda expensive.

The problem I see is mainly the hauling around of gas. They rule are different for a commercial vehicle. If I remember correctly the tank must be auto shutoff in case of an accident. And a portable can isn't allowed. But I might be wrong, I've got to get my books out again and check it out.
Next thing is, an espar heater runs directly off the diesel tank. Can run for many hours without draining the battery much at all so heat is not a problem. The bigger problem would be cooling and electricity. -
I never said I believe them about their lawyers fighting my idling ticjet. I'm nit delusional. Lol.
I'm going to see how thr refusal to tske a liad to no idle states goes. Ill probably be leaving soon at this rate. Dobt want yo ad I liked it here until this. I'm keeping an open mind but I've already got feelers out for a day cab or regional job. Home nightly or every weekend. Might be worth the risk of a small pay cut.
I live in the memphis area. Should not be hard.

USA might even have something in the Memphis area. You should check. -
go buy an inverter and see if they(shop) will install it for you. I have one, our shop will install it, as long as it meets specifications! Don't go out and buy a 30,000 watt one! lol get a simple one like 1500 watts. The 2 trucks I had at USA both had one...but BOTH were blown out! Oh yeah, they only had 500-550,000 miles on them and were TOTALLY used up!

The truck has the same 1800 watt inverters the other rrucks have.
Yea I see the WM terminal is fully up with Driver Managers and shop again per their facebook page. I'm going to inwuire if they plan on any local day cabs or shuttle services to van buren.

Sorry to hear that. I picked up 1600 ml load Thurs morning with 2 stops along the way. Drops in Laredo yd tomorrow night. Should end up with about 3400 for the week. All I can say is if you are turning in your hours, running legal, pu and del ontime and talking to your travel agent, not cussing him out. Things work out pretty good.
I was running up and down I95 for weeks, called mine up and asked him what the deal was. He thought that's where I wanted to be because of the larger amount of freight there. Reminded him I was 48+ Canada and he said no problem. Next ld was westward bound.
