Maybe because all the major air cargo businesses are on the north end of the airport property in the vicinity of the crash? Virginia Ave was the exit off I-85 you used to take to the passenger terminal before they built out the current one in the early 80s, and a lot of the airport service companies are still right there. Also a bunch of industrial property east of the airport off I-75 and Old Dixie. He could have been coming/going from anywhere in that area.

About the only thing wrong with that u-turn is he cut it too short and would have grabbed some median curb with his trailer anyway. I'm sure in the moment before the shuttle struck him, he was thinking "I'VE GOT THIS!"

So the "chief counsel" of USA Truck hangs up on the reporter when asked about other safety violations and refuses to return an e-mail. Restores my faith in that bunch of yahoos.

Which ones? The AJC? or USA Truck?

What I see is the AJC and WSB reporters need to take a CSA101 class and learn what those statistics actually mean before they include them in a report.

Same reason celebrities dont speak to the paparazzi. This one should have been a no brainer for you. Why would the reporter ask about safety violations if they didnt have intentions to show the company in bad light?

I'm on the side of the truck driver. We have to negotiate these cell phone, late for latte people that don't care for other people. Sometimes we have to do what we have to do to get the job done.
"Shoot" I Texarkana I came accross a low bridge on a 6 lane road. All I could was throw on the flashers and back a mile till I came accros a cross over. "It's all you can do". We just have be extremely careful in what we do. These people have no idea what we do for their creature comforts. I'll bet 5 dollars and a donut that the bonehead in the shuttle was somehow on the cell phone. Texting or maybe sexting. They don't think about being responsible for lives in the seats behind them. Be Safe.

That might be true but its still in the companies best interests not to comment to news reporters either way.

There's a lot assumed here. Just because the truck has a T does not mean there was a trainer and a student in it. Teams also use those trucks. I Run solo in my T truck often. And sometimes when family members are riding for long periods together, even if only 1 is a driver, they can have a T truck.
sometimes they are just assigned to someone because there was not something else available.
Why was he making a U-turn from the right lane some asked? Because it takes 5 full lanes to make a U-turn without stopping and backing up. Possibly even more if your tandems are further back.
Noone thinks about the fact that truck drivers run 150,000+ Miles a year. 2300 trucks, 150000 miles, only 251 reportable accidents in 2 years. Remember it becomes a reportable just because the truck had to be towed or there was an injury. Many minor accidents have to be towed. Even if the truck was parked when it happened. It could be better, but really is not bad. The reporter is just looking to make news. Or maybe working for an attorney.
I feel bad for all those that were injured and pray that they heal quickly. This really was a senseless accident. They only absolute thing we do know is that someone(s) were not paying attention to what they were doing.
