A brighter bulb doesn't fix the fact that they are poorly designed and factory aimed. Either your high beam is aimed good and your low beam cutoff is visible 20 feet in front of you or your low beams aimed properly and your high beam hits the top of the trees.
You can put a 9006 in place of the h11 low beam for a quick output boost if staying halogen is the way you wanna go. A h11 put out 55w and 1300 (roughly) lumen. A 9006 put out 65w and 2100 lumens. (Lumen is what's used to measure light output)
Just a cut of a extra tab with a utility knife to make the bulb plug in
Where do I get a HID conversion kit for a 2007 Volvo VN780

Low beam aim problem easy fixable with two washers 0.5mm thick under upper projector studs.
Issue is the volvo projector plastic reflector. It's get brown in one year and light brightness is lost. DO NOT PUT DIFFERENT TYPE OF BULBS. It doesn't help see road better but create glares and oncoming traffic drivers send you best regards.
HID light is looking good but not for me. The sharp cutoff line jumping up and down makes my eyes fatigue in just a hour. In case light is went down on the road where to look for parts???????
My budget solution is halogen projectors from car junk yard. Got halogen projectors from Audi for 6 $, some bench work and no worries. -
Putting washer on the upper bolts could work. Saying that the issue is the reflector surface burning out is accurate in one sense that yes they burn out pre mature, but they are complete garbage from the get go.
To say that a 9005 bulb wouldn't put out more light is completely rediculous. Look at the numbers. With more lumen means more light output, more glare would be true in a reflector but this is a projector with a shield the thwarts glare to oncoming traffic when aimed properly.
I had never thought of putting a washer in the top half of the projector, if you wanted cheap as borscht solution to get the aim a lille better than that would work perfect. I prefer to spend 500 and see for a 1/4 mile of solid daylight but realize alot of company drivers may be looking for a very cheap solution to this problem.
***please keep in mind that 95% of hid kits you'll buy locally are cheap garbage. My suggestion is buy hid from theretrofitsource.Com as all they do is compare kits and sell the best.
I have literally tried it all on my volvos. I bought every option .... my local dealership hated hid because they said it couldn't be done without throwing a code, I had to teach them what parameters to change on the lcm. In front of all the guys at the dealership I blew they're mind when I showed them a couple hundred dollar hid setup blowing the socks off the new 1600 dollar truck lite led lights (which they guaranteed me were better) -
If you have a lot of 500$'s to trow away please trow it in my direction
I didn't argue with you about bulbs light output. My point is the different bulbs have to use different optical systems (reflectors) to place the filament exactly in the optical system focus. -
I will never go back to standard Volvo lights. After installing the kit from Dave I could finally drive at night actually seeing the road instead of guessing.
No codes, no faults and no Volvo shop involved. -
The original question was "where can I get a HID lights" for my Volvo (gen II ) not where do I get halogen bulbs or LED headlights.
Has been answered, including if you need to go to Volvo to get a program for the truck (no no no ).
Why can't Volvo do this for us?
Not invented here syndrome? -
If you put a plug and play hid kit in and need to get rid of the codes just ask the dealership to reprogram the lcm and disable the following parameters. ANJ, ANK, DWU, DWV.
-
Dave's kit sets no codes ,and therefore no extra costs
win win. -
Ordered my hids from ddm tuning with trip harness to prevent codes. They have good review n warranty. $70.. Will see...
-
Installed the new kit. Didn't need the trip harness, no problem yet. I love it, never going back. Ddm tunning 35w 4300 is way to go
