Does anyone have an image of the Cummins ISX EGR valve? I'd like to know where it is, what it looks like, and how to un-plug the thing. What I was told by a former mechanic was incorrect.

It depends on what year ISX you have, up to '06 engine model (found in some '07 model trucks too) it is buried behind and slightly in front of the turbo. '07 and later engines it is on the driver's side.

EPA 2007 engines with CM871 really differ.

    try to google for it!

and why do you wnat to unplug it? if it leaks exaust to intake it wont help! there is only way to block it with small steel plate but pay attention on higher combustion temperatures that may heart engine pistons

Egr question to the knowledgeable: egr has two plugs, on the pre 2007 isx. Lower - 6 o'clock and upper: 3 o'clock.
What do they read/do - each plug?

I have taken the egr valve apart to clean it, putted it back together and installed it : this code came up : Mid 128 #pid 27 fmi 4. Thoughts?

The Egr guts came out on me - I've reinstalled it back the best of I knew how.

Correct me if I'm wrong : every time the cold engine starts, the valve should pull up and its motor whine, if you use the doctor's listening device on it, will be heard. I've Plugged the valve on, while the side cover was off, turned the key on and the valve went up / closed.

Now, from what I've written up, anyone can tell me where I've screwed up? - is there the egr position device ? Can the valve over travel - if so , how?

Plus, my VGt was replaced by the dealer.

    Thanx.

If you're talking about an EGR from an ISX CM870, it is not field serviceable. The wire going into the silver cylinder is the stepper motor control, the other plug is the EGR position. If you took it apart, you ruined it since the unit does have to be timed. The code is EGR Valve Position Circuit - Voltage below normal, or shorted to low source crosses to a cummins code 2272. The valve does need to be replaced if this code is triggered due to a failed position sensor. If that is the only code active, replace the valve. If there are other codes active, please list them and I'll try to help you out the best I can.
