I was hauling a heavy load up a steep incline (I have a Volvo 465 Engine). When I got back on level ground, I noticed that BOTH my cruise control and speedometer had stopped working (I believe I had my cruise control "on" during the climb). I'm hoping that the speedometer just needs a new VSS sensor, but what could be causing my cruise control to stop working? I just had the oil changed this week as well as a hub cap kit installed on the right steer.

Sounds like your speed sensor went out! It goes on your transmission!

Thanks buddy; that's what I'm thinking as well. I believe the part only costs @ $32. Is it something I can replace myself? BTW, smooth-looking truck my friend!!!

it is bad VSS to VECU wiring.
-
Thanks, that's what I've been hearing.

really many volvos got two speed sensors, one for engine ECM, other for VECU, but with cummins engine only, Volvo engine gets speed data from VECU via J1939

Had a new VSS Sensor put in yesterday. She's running like a champ now! Thanks!!!

Cruise works now that the sensor's been replaced, right?Last edited: Apr 4, 2012

if VECU VSS is bad - no cruise control.
In EU as speed sourse Tachograph is used, it is connected to J1939 and all units get data from Tachograph -
I would have to get both speed sensors replaced? Where, exactly, are the sensors located for each CU?
