How to go broke owning a VOLVO. Cost of Ownership.

Are the trucks your friends own new or were they used also; I think this is a lot of difference also since you plan on taking care of the truck and you don't really know how well the truck was taken care of in the first place; it's like buying a used car, you go through and replace batteries and brakes, and spark plugs, etc and hope that there wasn't anything major wrong with it, but find out someone let it run hot and cracked a head.

 

Id buy a prostar with a Maxxforce engine before I bought a volvo. They work for some people but I just couldn't stand the looks of them. Although everyone's different

Oh but when I rode with him they were a cadillac of room inside, the truck he has now doesn't even compare. Riding in the back of the volvo was like being in a theater with the sidewindows and the front window. And it had a lot of storage in it with side pockets and shelves; we had one of the coleman thermo coolers, a small refrig, a microwave, the tv and vcr, and everytime we made it back home I would pickup more stuff. It also had the sun window which we most usually kept covered because of the heat.

 

I hear ya, Im just biased against Volvo period. I'll be honest and say its ONLY because of the way they look. That's it. I can't stand the way the prostar looks but I'll take it over a Volvo.

I'm not big on the interior, I see why people like them, its just not for me. I grew up loving paccar and harvester trucks.

I know people like the space inside and all, but I'm in favor of the smaller sleepers that paccar trucks offer, plus the smaller cab with the passenger seat right next to mine. Its just what I like though.

Plus the big beautiful hood out in front of me doesn't hurt either

I see your side of it, but I had enough room to cook on top of the cooler with the George Foreman and get around. It had the table that would make up into the bed, but we usually just left it down and made as a bed. But the longer length of the tractor made it hard to maneuver in some of the older docks such as Luray, VA

 

Yes, for Yalls application it makes sense. Volvo's are known for their tight turning radius, or so I read that a lot of people say that. I bet the room is great for you to move around especially since both of you would be in the truck. If my girlfriend ever came along with me id definitely get a mid-roof or condo sleeper since I favor flat-tops for only me.

As for the docks I'm leaning more toward the longer wheelbase hood trucks seeing as I'm a skateboarder. I have been to some tight places but I know id be able to make it work.

I just love hood trucks too much haha.

I have to ask if all that have had these night mare shop visits have bothered to contact the corp. Volvo office? I do have a 2007 Volvo and have only had minor Volvo issues. Simple maintenance repairs that are going to be needed on any truck with 700,000 plus miles on them. My truck has a Cummins engine, I have had to spend more on the Cummins side than I have the Volvo side. I have a couple friends with Volvo engines and transmissions, one is a 2009 and the other is 2012 both with D 13's. They have had very good results with there's on fuel milage and maint. issue's and I plan on bying a new Volvo next year when my current truck is paid off. I do believe the corp. business model of Volvo is to provide a dependable truck and to provide good service. I guess the moral to my story is if I have these type of shop experiences I would contact the corp. Volvo office. Cant fix what they don't know about.
