It is just out of the 500K warranty from Cummins, so I would want to know if the cams are OK or have been replaced or inspected, and whether it is the original turbo. Both can be bad by that mileage and are big bucks repairs.

They sell them so cheep because there are so many of them out there. Volvo is one of the brands that has attracted companies to use them. They are light get good fuel mileage and offer the basics of comfort and mass produced. nothing fancy but you can get the job done with it.
I would suggest asking if they would mind you taking it to the local Volvo dealer for an inspection, referring back to what Hardlyevr said. Plus see if they are offering any extended warranties.
good luck.

Awsome thanks, I was assuming the company that owned sold it because it is ou of warranty.
I haven't called about it yet so I'm not sure what repairs have been made.
If I get the vin can the Volvo dealer run it for me and tell me on the phone or will they charge me?

The Volvo dealer should be able to tell you if it has been into a Volvo shop for any warranty repair or updates. As for regular service stuff, no unless it was taken to a dealer for that as well.
