Need some help before investing $900 for a new EPG. Attached are some pictures of the EPG shutter on a Volvo D12 engine. Just want to know if that shutter is stuck partially closed, and does not retract all the way back when there is no pressure form the AVU. To me it looks like it is not fully open and thus restricts exhaust gasses form escaping freely. Otherwise I can tell that it is working (can hear it whirling), warm-hold function, idle-EGR function, just the exhaust brake function is definitely mediocre.
Anyway, has anyone seen a NEW or GOOD EPG and tell me if if the shutter is so close the opening when the truck is shut down.

Any thoughts?

really if you disable EPG engine warms up under load only. Idling engine warms up to 60 dgr C only. Engine brake is a bit weaker.
So keep EPG solenoid to make ECM "think" that EPG is OK, else you loose jakes.
Really some owners run D12 w/o EPG, they say no notisable difference -
BTW. As I can see it is D12D. ECM got no delta sensor (EGR pos sensor only), so no EGR fault codes with EPG disabled
1976bigred Thanks this. -

if you unplug air valve EECU throws fault code, engine brake wont working, so just plug air line

So, is EPG on the picture fully open??

yes... looks like fully
I gonna b at work in monday and I can measure this gap (is it D12D?)bravoo67 Thanks this. -
