I have an 2007 780 volvo it has a inverter unit installed from the factory or by the dealer that order the truck in question,( also an tri-pack APU ) I had the truck for about two years now, now I'm trying to use the inverter unit, but to me it seems like inverter is dead. I check at volvo they wanted $2200 to replace it. Does anyone know what model of the inverter in question setting under my truck, Since the unit is sealed with a red and black wire leads coming out it going to the battery or I should say up into Electric fuse breaker that says 1700 Watt inverter With two AC outlets inside the bunk and two AC outlet on the outside of the bunk.

    Any help would be appreciated

It is probably a inverter that was part of the TriPac package, and there really is no reason that you cannot replace it with any other inverter that has the capacity you need and will physically fit in the spot. When you say it is dead, what is it doing or not doing? Does it turn on? Perhaps the little breaker for the outlets has been bumped or tripped?

If you peel enough Volvo/TriPack stickers off of the old one you will find a "Xantrex" inverter. They make several different sizes and qualities, of inverter. I'm just guessing, (not arguing) The one that died is a modified sine wave, kinda middle of the road quality-wise. An exact replacement (without the Volvo stickers) can be bought at any good camper supply house or on ebay for around $800.00.First you need to make sure the one you have is truley dead. IF (thats a big word) it was installed correctly there is going to be a fuse on the battery connection, that needs to be checked first, if that is good then work your way up the power cables, looking for rub/cut marks, corrosion ect. There is usually a fuse ih the back of the inverter also, check it too.BUT if you find a blown fuse anywhere you have to ask yourself, what made it blow? The "electric fuse breaker" makes me think it is a factory(Volvo not TriPack) inverter,if thats is the case there is also a lowvoltage cut-off somewhere in the truck to keep ypu from running your batteries down so low it wont start.I don't know about Volvo's but KW's suck brand new, I finnally gave up and wired around mine and about 80% of my electrical demons disappeared. If your going to use this inverter for a laptop or CPAP machine, you might want to step up to a "pure sine-wave" inverter, yes they are way more expensive than a modified sine wave but a whole bunch cheaper than a good laptop and a truckload cheaper than a CPAP machine.

Thank for all the information, This weekend I'll have some time and I'll start from the battery cables back to the converter box. The hardest thing about any truck manufacturer, they don't make anything, Except for the motor, frame and possibly all the plastic parts and computer wire harnesses.

doing a fast look under the truck on the driver side, it has an Sticker on the outside of the box saying watertight compartment,
The box in question looks kind of small in my Opinion, Can't be much of a inverter unit in that box.

I have the same inverter in my 07 vn780. It's been great. Now the 120v inverter switch on the overhead dash is blinking, and I have no electricity going to any of my 120v outlets. I liked this thread. Thank you.

Many of the manufacturers use Phillips and Temro wiring harness and inverter. I have a new 2014 volvo that was supposed to have come with the inverter but that was somehow deleted from the order. I've been trying to put my old inverter, a trip lite 3000 in. The dealer tells me and it seems to be so that I just run cables from the battery to the inverter. Then from the outlet on the inverter I can plug into any of the 110 volt outlets and it powers all the other outlets.

I've got a Xantrex in this '12, they started mounting them in the jockey box and got rid of all the problems that came with being mounted in the "water tight" compartment. Those things after a while were nothing but problems once all the muck and salt and such started seeping in. This thing charges as well when plugged in, so far it's does what it's supposed to do.

I have an 07 with the "Factory" inverter, Check under your driver door fairing, you will see the inverter directly to the right of the batteries, with the large batt cables going to it... there is a fuse right on the top of it I'd say start there, also pull off all your cables sand them down to make sure they have a good connection. I had the same issue and did that and worked again without an issue.... while your there pull apart all that connectors going into and out of the inverter and hit them with elec. contact cleaner, blow them out really well and dielectric them back together, start simple and work your way to expensive is my motto.

Ive also heard of the switch on the overhead console (driver seat) going bad... look into that

Someone else had mention, about the fuse, I did not know where to look until now, since it's been -10 to -20 past two weeks, I will check this week end, temp should be in the 20's
