Hi everyone. I have 2007 Volvo 780 with Cummins ISX 530hp. I notice that fan turns on with no reason. With gas pedal pressed more than half way, fan turns on, when i relase the gas pedal fan turns off. Its the same thing hapens on every gear. I have to be very gentle with gas pedal if i dont want the fan running. I notice also that in warmer weather, temperature under the hood is higher /even worst with the fan problem/. Engine temperature is optimal /180 F/, fan clutch solenoid replaced, thermostat replaced, no air leaks. Please help.

Maybe ECM has to be reset for fan operation. Have you had it calibrated since changing the solenoid et al ?

No i havent. Only the dealer can calibrate it? But i had this problem before i replaced the solenoid. And there is some weird sound since the fan start turning on when i press the gas pedal, its not turbo, something else but i have no idea how to explain it

Well the dealer/shop has to plug in and check the settings. Is the fan clutch air actuated or electric/viscous? As far as the noise, have you checked the exhaust manifold gaskets? I know on my '06 there was a recall campaign for exhaust manifold bolts. Does the noise fluctuate with rpm speed? Check all flex pipe etc... Have you checked the fan hub itself? Maybe the bearings are going in the hub and it's not fully disengaging hence the noise and the fan turning. The fan is or could be turning at lower rpm's but you can't hear it inside until you reach a certain engine speed.

Thats my first trip after major repair. Exhaust manifold gaskets replaced. Oil cooler replaced. Egr, i mean everything on the passenger side of the engine was replaced. Fan clutch is air actuated. Yes the noise fluctuate with rpm speed. Flex pipe replace. No leaks from exaust. Fan hub is tight so i dont think there is any problem with fan clutch bearings. :( Maybe some sensors connected to the A/C? But its happening with A/C off or on doesnt metter.

Well the problem with these things is that there are so many sensors that control pretty much everything. How about codes? Have you gone in and checked to see if it's flashed any codes? You can do that yourself through the dash.

Yea i checked everything the codes on dash also. 2 codes only "fan clutch output" and "value to high" but mechanic checked it all and he couldnt help me. I dont want to go to the dealer and pay for nothing. Trying to fix it the cheapest way. I already spend $6500 for the engine repair like 4 days ago. :/

Well I'm afraid that's about all I can think of. You might have to bite the bullet and pay for a dealer to run a diagnostic on it. They should be able to tell what's going on. Good Luck.

    PITBULL777 Thanks this.
