Need Serious Engine Help!

    Soo guys after buying a used 2006 Volvo out of the Michigan area. six days later the truck goes to put its first load. The truck was bob tail in Detroit, MI headed to Chicago, Il to pick up the load for Dallas, only a 10,000pounds. No biggie Well it picked up the load and headed to Dallas, in Sullivan, Mo going up a small hill on I44 the truck cut out and was pulled into the shoulder, it wouldn't even turn over. The tow truck came, we pulled it to the shop only to find the Cummins engine had a hole on the bottom. The engine it gone. I called Cummins they want $24k for a reman. I also found a used one for $12k+ labor im looking at $17k. What can I do the truck was purchased "as is" Need serious help?

    No we didn't, we looked at the turbo but didn't see a oil spot until the tow truck got there.

    I don't see many choices........and the engine is not "gone". Where's the hole? oil pan? fix it and do the bottom end. Block but not in oil galley? Fix it and do bottom end. Block junk? Still worth 2-3 grand in parts ( credit ) ......make sure you get it off bill.

    Where you at? Mom and pop? Need out of there for big shop, dealer imo. You need resources like access to parts etc without 3rd party mark ups.

    You'll need title and loan too. Fix it and sell it or just run it. Yanking it out for a junk yard motor is last choice.

    Did you call seller? He might help...... google state law where you bought truck too. Some states don't allow "as is" sales, statements. Time is short on all of this, don't waste it.

    did hole in engine happen while driving? or was it there at purchase. how could a hole in engine not cause truck to stall way before it did ? where is hole? if in oil pan it can be fixed. which I doubt, cause shop would of told you if it could be fixed. if they quoted you engine prices it is because engine is shot. engine should have shutdown protection to prevent needing another engine in a lot of failures. sound like a rod went thru the block. & that where the hole is. {caveat emptor}

    No the hole was no there when I got it, Im gussing a rod did it to but Im not sure. Here is the picture I was able to take

    Putting a reman in my 2000 Freightliner at about a million miles at my home dealer was the smartest move I ever made in the 35 years of trucking. 2nd option, do the same where you are, in a volvo/cummins shop who will warranty the work nationwide. these things happen when you purchase used equipment.

    Either you are extremely unlucky, or someone did a patch job on the bottom end of that engine to sell it.

    If it didnt make it it any farther then that, Im guessing the patch job.

    I would go back to the to where you purchased the truck and start there.
