    I have a 2007 Volvo with D12 engine. 2 days ago while driving on the highway orange warning light popped up with a code Mid 128 Pid 98 Fmi 5. This is the code for faulty Oil LEVEL Sensor. I checked oil level with dipstick and the level is fine (to the max). Oil pressure is 60-65 while driving which is also great. I would have no problem replacing this sensor the same day I got that warning light, but I just changed engine oil about 1000 miles ago. Oil Level Sensor is located inside oil pan and you have to drop the oil pan to get to it. I would like to do this work done with next oil change. So can anybody tell me who had experience with this sensor if there is a chance that this sensor may shut my engine off, or I can drive it until next oil change. My main concern is if the engine can shut off because of this sensor (I don't depend on fancy stuff like checking oil level from inside my cab without opening the hood).
    Thanks for response......

    don't know about Volvos but freightliner if the trk has low oil or thinks its low on oil it could shut off trk going down the road wont start till it reads a safe level {don't know why it would be any different}

    Depends on the set up of you're truck in the ECM if its going to shut off u can't really bypass it u can unplug it and it should be fine same like the coolant level sensor

    ON my ddec 3 if my coolant level sensor goes bad, I can unplug & put a wire connecting the ends of the sensor to bypass. as far as the oil sensor, you may be able to unplug it to keep truck from shutting down. or may have to by pass like I say can be done with coolant level sensor, but I am not sure on your type engine, if I am correct.

    I would tried to bypass it, but there are 4 connectors since this sensor is oil level and oil temp sensor. A little bit too much for me. Anyway, my truck is still running and in a case it would shut down on me I would definitely try to unplug it at least. I would still like to hear from somebody who knows abouth this matter.

    Well it sounds like you're ECM does not have the engine protection for the oil level programmed in it because if it did it would have already shut down on you so u should be fine to go for as far as you like it's not a big deal

    the fault code pid 98 is a key on input, only read at key on, f/c will not shut down engine specially a fmi 5. fmi 5 mean open circuit.
