Just what he said. The I-Shift has great reviews! We can only get Freightliners at my crib, and we just got 5 with the DT-12s which I think is Detroit's way of cloning the I-Shift. My only experiences in autos was in a Volvo 670 with Cummins and Ultrashift. Gutless POS!

I have a 2004 670 with ved 12 465 hp. It has been rock steady. I bought in 06 with 500k on it. It now has 1.3 mill and has had no major problems. It has never had an overhead since i owned it. It does about 6.5-7.0mpg. The most expensive repair done to it was egr valves (it has 2) for 2800. They are now blocked off. I dont necessarily know if one motor is better then then other. It may be more luck of the draw.i will say my buddies 500 hp cummins will easily outpull mine tho. But i would not trade my green motor for anything.

Nice to know that, How do you block the EGR's? I'm probably not supposed to know this! The longevity on that truck is AWESOME! It has paid for itself!. Thanks for the info.

Intake pipe goes over to the egr valves. Not sure what year engine u have so not sure exactly. Do a search on here for your motor.

I am a company driver with a 2005 D12 with 1.2M miles. I've driven it for a year and its had an EGR valve and a fan clutch replaced. My average MPG is 6.7 and thats good enough to get me a fuel bonus. It doesnt use any oil between changes and seems solid. The 2010 and newer get around 1 mpg better mileage. I have heard that the improvement in MPG happened when they added SCR technology (a catalytic converter) and didnt rely solely on the EGR to remove / prevent Nitrogen Oxides in the exhaust.

Here is a link to a thread about blocking the egrs. Is this what you did? If so, how long ago? Did mpg go up? Any problems as a result of doing this?

Yeah thats it. In my case mine were stuck open so my trk would not idle until the temp was up. Now it idles fine from the get go. Didnt really get a mpg increase. But my fuel mileage has always been great. 6.5-7.5.

Skip anything from '08 to '10. Either get a pre DPF '07 or older or get a DEF equipped '11 or newer. Fuel mileage and reliablity both took a hit in the '08-'10 year engines(this goes for all manufacturers not just volvo).
