First check your wires from the EGR. They run over the valve cover on the right side of the engine. Most of the time it is the wires; the first 40 cms of wires fronm the EGR. Each Valve has 4 0r 5 wires and they rub on each other (engine vibration) after 3 to 5 years the plastic insolation warn out leaving the wires shorting each other. The computer will never tells that you have bad wires ($10.00) it tells you bad EGR valves. Don't believe? Just get a brand new truck and cut 1 of the wires of the EGR connections and watch at the computer codes.

All egr codes will start with MID 128. that is the reporting ECU. (ENGINE) Component codes would follow. PID 27 Valve 1 position sensor, PID 362 valve 2 position sensor, SID 146 EGR Valve 1, SID 266 EGR Valve 2. then we get into FMI (failure mode identifier) too much to list. if You can post the actual code I can decipher it for you.

When you get "check engine light" because of faulty egr valve VED D12D engine looses on power,
I blocked tube going back to the engine but down the road ended up changing EGR valve,
no check engine light and truck pulls stronger.. you can buy "new" re-manufactured EGR valves for D12 on ebay for $600..
I bought two in this price already, second one have for spare
Good luck!Digitz10 Thanks this. -
You can factory rebuilt EGR right from Volvo, last time I check $598.00 plus core charge !
-
And if Volvo install you get a 12 month parts and labor warranty. Don't be cheap in the wrong places.

my 2007 volo have a check light on it says ecu. I took it to the shop they said it's my egr valve number 2 so how much do one of them cost and can I replace that myself
-
I think valve is around $800 + core charge at the dealer and you can replace them by yourself
Just have to remember to check or get new clamps and thin metal seals that connect valve with exhaust pipes
EGR valve electric cable goes all the way to the other side of the engine and it plugs right behind the alternator so keep in mind you might have to remove alternator as well
Valve #2 I think is the second one from the front of the truck/engine, but not 100% sure
There is coolant line conected to the valve as well so becarefull with that.. other than that its easy job
Good luck!
